Two bills calling for an end to live animal exports were defeated in Federal Parliament this morning.
The Live Animal Export Restriction and Protection Bill introduced by independent MP Andrew Wilkie was defeated, with only Mr WIlkie and Greens MP Adam Bandt voting in support of it.
The Live Animal Export (slaughter) Prohibition Bill 2011 initiated by the Mr Bandt was also defeated with only Mr Wilkie and Mr Bandt voting in its favour.
AAP news reported this morning that the RSPCA and Animals Australia are expected to release new footage of ill-treatment of Australian livestock in Turkey later today.
Meanwhile the Senate Rural Affairs and Transport Committee was yesterday granted an extension until September 21.
