Bush AgriBusiness has launched the 2024 edition of its Top Studs report, listing the 237 top-performing bull-breeding enterprises across 14 breeds across Australia, including their genetic profiles.
The report is designed to help commercial cattle producers compare the genetic profiles of seedstock sources in the Australian beef industry, with a simplified genetics report listing the top-performing studs across breeds with detailed profiles.
In his summary of the publication, western Queensland beef producer Andrew Miller from Braidwood Station near Jundah said Top Studs was “an indispensable guide for anyone serious about achieving significant genetic gain in their herd.”
Bush Agribusiness applied the same three criteria for qualification to be listed in Top Studs 2024 report as it did in the inaugural 2023 edition:
- They, and their breed, utilise BreedPlan and have at least one selection index
- They register at least 50 animals a year on BreedPlan
- Their 2022 drop average equals or exceeds the breed average for at least one maternal selection index (i.e. excluding terminal indexes).
This year’s edition includes a comprehensive introduction section including an analysis of EBVs across breeds.
Top Studs 2024 cuts through the confusion of bull sale catalogues and the ‘overwhelm’ of BreedPlan data to help bull buyers make the best objective selections for their purchases.
It’s a handy resource, just in time for spring bull sale season.
