New Brisbane Valley Donor Centre to support cattle IVF customers

Beef Central 30/06/2025

THE seedstock cattle industry in Southern Queensland is set to benefit from a new, purpose-built bovine IVF donor centre near Toogoolawah in the Brisbane Valley.

With a rapidly increasing global trend towards in-vitro embryo production in cattle genetics, otherwise known as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), there has been a surge in IVF service providers across Eastern Australia.

The new Brisbane Valley Donor Centre is designed to cater specifically to breeders working with small numbers of donor cows – particularly those with fewer than ten elite females.

The centre will host artificial breeding technology development company Nybro to run monthly ovum pick-ups starting in late August.

Monthly ovum pick-up sessions are planned, subject to demand, with all operations taking place within a fully-equipped, purpose-built facility located within the tick zone.

Importantly, the centre enables a viable IVF solution for breeders with fewer than the typical 20-25 head usually required to make an on-farm ovum pick-up day commercially viable.

This makes high-quality assisted breeding technologies more accessible to smaller operators or seedstock producers with limited donor numbers.

All ovum pick-up procedures at the Brisbane Valley donor centre will be carried out by Nbryo’s experienced team of assisted breeding specialists, ensuring high standards of animal care and technical expertise.

This development offers a valuable new option for beef producers seeking to access cattle IVF services in a more accessible and flexible format.
