Forum to showcase on-farm advantages of digital technology

RED meat producers can cut through the hype around digital technology and see how it’s actually being used on-farm when Meat & Livestock Australia hosts its Digital Forum on 22-23 November in Canberra. The Forum is being supported with on-farm demonstrations hosted by Carwoola Pastoral Company.

The forum, ‘From the hype to the happening’ is being held as part of the industry’s flagship event, Red Meat 2018, from 20-23 November. In addition to on-farm, other digital solutions from along the entire value chain will be demonstrated and discussed.

MLA general manager MDC, research, development and innovation, Sean Starling, said the forum was designed to show what’s really happening in the red meat industry in the digital technology space and look at what new developments are on the horizon.

“Whether you’re wanting to see what a difference digital technology and data could make to your production, feedlot, processing or retail enterprise, or you’re looking for the next tool to further increase the productivity of your business, this forum has something for everyone,” Mr Starling said.

“End users can hear from their industry colleagues about their experiences of applying digital tools in their businesses and the impact it’s had on their time, decision-making and bottom line. Service providers from across the globe will also showcase the technologies available now in the digital trade show.”

Day one of the forum on Thursday, 22 November, will feature a half-day field day at Carwoola Pastoral Co, a 2000-hectare mixed livestock and cropping enterprise.

MLA and various solution providers have installed a range of tools encompassing connectivity, animal monitoring and tracking, asset monitoring and tracking, human safety, analytics and user interfaces at Carwoola, and the five other properties under the management of Darren Price.

The afternoon session at Hotel Realm, Canberra, will focus on the topics of global consumers – expectations and transparency; and future leveraging of digital data.  This session will also include Mr Price sharing his experiences in establishing digital farm infrastructure across the five properties under his management.

Day two on Friday, 23 November, runs from 8am to 3.30pm and will feature five sessions, with topics including leveraging non-red meat livestock technology for the benefit of the Australian industry; generating business and consumer data; connectivity solutions; digital supply chain trust; and a possible digital future. Day two will enable attendees to hear first-hand from solution providers who have deployed their technology on Carwoola and other properties.
