Yarding 6140 Change +1740
After last week’s public holiday, numbers lifted significantly. A large portion of the yarding consisted of weaner types under 380kg. Heavy export cattle were in limited supply, with younger heavy steers primarily purchased by feedlots. A substantial group of buyers attended the sale, many holding both feedlot and restocking orders. Competition was very intense for well-bred stock, especially for vendor-bred Angus steers and heifers, which fetched a premium.
Restocking orders were prevalent, with cattle being sent to southern Victoria and northern NSW. Lightweight steers weighing 200-280kg gained 5c, averaging $1482, while the heifer portion saw a notable lift of 29c, averaging $1332/head. Restockers showed strong competition against feedlots for steers weighing between 330-400kg. The steers going back to the paddock topped at 629c, averaging $2130/head, while feedlots paid up to 620c, averaging $2087/head. Medium weight feeder steers experienced a notable uptick of 24c, fetching between 495-588c/kg. Trade cattle in the 400-500kg range were few, selling between 470-538c/kg.
On the export side, heavy cattle were scarce, with heavy steers suitable for processors making between 440-515c/kg. Heavy heifers with good shape ranged from 432-478c/kg.
The yarding of cows was mixed, and most buyers were present. Heavy cows eased by 3c, making from 402-431c/kg. Leaner cows under 520kg sold between 350-410c/kg. There were numerous orders for store cows in the market, with buyers paying from 365-393c/kg.
