NLRS Commentary:

Numbers were firm at 8300 head at Roma this week that included 1900 cows. Cattle were drawn from local areas as well as some good quality lines from the north west. Quality remained good and most categories of restocker steers held firm to slightly easier however heavy feeders improved by 5c and grown steers to the processor remained firm.

Light weight restocker steers sold to 618.2c to average 553c, western orders pushed prices for steers 280 to 330kg up to 588.2c to average 552c and local restockers dominated the medium weight steers 330 to 400kg, topping at 588.2c averaging 546c/kg. Heavy feeder steers over 400kg sold to 558.2c to average 527c/kg.

Restockers were selective on light weight heifers however a run of good quality British heifers under 200kg saw solid competition from southern Queensland and northern NSW selling to 524.2c to average 518c, heifers 200 to 280kg made to 524.2c averaging 448c and backgrounder heifers 330 to 400kg made to 522.2c to average 489c/kg. Orders from northern NSW pushed local feeders on heavy heifers to feed with those over 400kg selling to 526.2c with most around 486c and a single Angus heifer donated to Life Flight made to 540c/kg.

Heavy grown steers over 600kg topped at 465.2c to average 452c/kg. Prime grown heifers over 540kg made to 458.2c averaging 430c and medium weight cows sold to 386c/kg. Heavy 3 score cows sold to 400.2c averaging 390c and prime 4 score cows over 520kg topped at 429.2c to average 417c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to 426.2 to average 403c/kg.
