Yarding: 6576 Change: -2099
Just over 6,500 head of cattle were yarded at the Roma Saleyards this week, with prices continuing to heat up during the cooler months.
The market remained firm on last week’s sale, with yearling steers in the 200–280kg and 280–330kg weight ranges showing improvement.
All the regular processors, feedlotters, and backgrounders were present and actively bidding in a competitive market.
Cattle were yarded primarily from the local Maranoa supply district and western regions, including Roma, Injune, Wallumbilla and Augathella.
The quality and selection of cattle on offer once again showcased Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.
In the steer job, the Henricks offloaded a quality run of Angus heifers and steers at the Tuesday sale.
Robert and Gail Henricks sold a pen of 14 Angus steers for 440c/kg weighing 300kg, for an average return of $1,321/hd.
Mick and Mardi Henricks, operating out of ‘Dakota’, Roma, offloaded a pen of Angus steers fetching 458c/kg to weigh 259kg averaging $1,188/hd.
The lines were consigned through PJH Livestock Roma.
Derbyshire Downs Pastoral Co offloaded a large line of 233 Charolais cross, Santa Gertrudis cross and Angus cross steers to average 442c/kg weighing in at 364kg for am average return of $1,608/hd.
Today’s offload marking the last of this season’s weaners for the Augathella based operation, two pens of Angus cross steers fetched 464c/kg to weigh 393kg for an average return of $1,822/hd.
A pen of Charolais cross steers made 430c/kg weighing in at 399kg to make $1,717/hd.
The line was consigned through Top X Roma.
The Jone’s of ‘Evergreen’, Injune offloaded a quality run of Charolais cross steers and heifers.
The Charolais cross steers fetched an average 434c/kg to weigh 290kg making an average $1,258/hd.
A pen of the Charolais cross sold for 442c/kg weighing in at 262kg for a return of $1,160/hd.
A further pen of heavier Charolais cross steers fetched $426c/kg weighing 325kg to make $1,385/hd.

NLRS Commentary:
With a few lessor numbers Roma Agents yarded 6,576 head. All the regular processors feedlotters and backgrounders present which included a couple of southern meat works operating. A smaller yarding of lessor quality cattle with some very good consignments scattered throughout the yarding. The market dearer for most steer and bullocks categories heifers were dependent on quality and type and weight and cows marginally dearer.
Yearling steers under 200kg topping 468c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg improving in price sold from 348c to 482c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg also improved and with the majority making 424c with some to 459c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg made 414c to feed and 464c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg sold from 350c to 440c/kg to feed. Yearling steers over 480kg made to 391c to processors and 386c/kg to feed.
Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg lost ground and made to 356c to average 299c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made to 312c to feed and 364c/kg to restockers. The majority of yearling heifers 330 to 400kg sold from 270c to 356c/kg to feed. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg sold to 376c/kg.
Grown steers 500 to 600kg topped 414c to processors to average 379c/kg. Bullocks over 600kg made to 398c/kg to processors almost 25c/kg stronger. Grown heifers over 540kg topped 378c to feed and 366c/kg to processors.
A large yarding of prime cows penned with most categories stronger than the previous sale. The 2 score cows sold from 200c to 278c/kg. The 3 score cows topped 335c to average 307c/kg.Bulls 450 to 600kg made to 316c and bulls over 600kg topped 315c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 468c/kg and averaged 433c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 482c/kg and averaged 438c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 452c/kg and averaged 416c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 464c/kg and averaged 410c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 440c/kg and averaged 382c/kg.
