Roma sale 10 June 2025: Seasonal weaner offloads continue

Seasonal weaner offloads continued at the Roma Saleyards with a large offering of just over 7,700 head at this week’s sale.

Not only was the yarding up, but the laneways packed with the cool start to the morning.

The market was firm to dearer across categories with several quality runs of locally bred weaners selling to an active buyer.

All regular processors, backgrounder and feedlotters were present and actively bidding   throughout the day.

The yarding consisted of cattle consigned primarily from the local supply district, including Roma, Amby, Jackson and Mungallala.

Cattle were also drawn from as far as Julia Creek and Conclurry in northern Queensland, Tibooburra in New South Wales and Cossack in Western Australia.

Deane Grazing Company offloaded a run of Droughtmaster cross steers, heifers and bulls as well as a large line of 231 Droughtmaster cross cows at today’s sale.

Operating out of ‘Malboona’, the Droughtmaster cross bullocks averaged 380c/kg to weigh 602kg for a return of $2,337/hd.

A pen of the Droughtmaster cross bullocks made 81c/kg weighing in at 613kg returning $2,337/hd.

The line was consigned through Top X Roma with livestock agent Cody Close.

John Russell from ‘Culbara’ offloaded a quality line of Charolais cross, Angus cross and Droughtmaster cross steers to average 444c/kg to weigh 277kg for a return of $1,226/hd.

A pen of Charolais cross steers fetched 470c/kg weighing at 259kg to return $1,215/hd.

A heavier pen of Charolais cross steers sold to 442c/kg weighing 312kg for an average return of $1,384/hd.

The line was consigned through Top X Roma.

Colin and Shawnie Maunder continued their seasonal weaner offload with a large run of 216 Charolais cross steers.

Yarded from Maunder Pastoral Co’s Amby based operation, ‘Cambow’ the producers averaged 441c/kg to weigh 320kg for a return of $1,414/hd.

Two pens of Charolais cross steers made 455c/kg to weigh 274kg for a return of $1,249/hd.

A further two pens fetched a straight 414c/kg weighing in at 366kg for an average return of $1,514/hd.

The top pen sold to 444c/kg to weigh 360kg for a top return of $1,601/hd.

The line was consigned through GDL Roma.

 

NLRS Commentary:

A few local frosts about Roma Agents yarded 7,738 head. All the regular processors feedlotters and backgrounders present. An exceptional line up of locally well bred weaners on offer as well as western cattle and a large number of cows penned. The market was firm to slightly easier except bullocks and heavy grown steers went against the trend and sold to stronger support.

Yearling steers 200 to 280kg with the majority selling from 300c to 470c/kg. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg made to 462c to average 428c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg sold to a dearer trend and made to 459c/kg. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg however lost ground to make 400c/kg. Yearling steers over 480kg topped 376c/kg.

Heifers also could not maintain the levels of the previous sale. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg sold from 208c to 378c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made to 354c to feed and 372c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg with the majority selling from 200c to 334c to restockers and 364c/kg to feed. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg topped 362c/kg to restockers to average 335c/kg. Yearling heifers over 480kg sold to a dearer trend and made to 344c and 350c/kg to processors.

Grown steers 500 to 600kg sold well to 376c/kg. Bullocks over 600kg sold extremely well to 381c/kg. Grown heifers over 540kg made to 350c to average 265c/kg also to processors. A large number of cows penned but could not maintain the levels of last sale. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 200c to 280c with the 3 score cows over 520kg sold from 240c to 310c/kg. Bulls 450 to 600kg made to 302c and bulls over 600kg topping 316c/kg.

A total of 7,738 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 420c/kg and averaged 410c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 470c/kg and averaged 430c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 462c/kg and averaged 425c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 458c/kg and averaged 398c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 400c/kg and averaged 355c/kg.

Gwenbrook Grazing, Gwenbrook, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 470c/kg, reaching a top of $1,474 to average $1,298.

John Russell, Culbara, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 470c/kg, reaching a top of $1,426 to average $1,226.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,620 to average $964.

Aaron Lister, Grafton Lea, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 460c/kg, reaching a top of $1,407 to average $1,329.

Bangor Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Bangor, Mungallala sold Charolais steers to 460c/kg, reaching a top of $1,351 to average $1,288.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 366c/kg, reaching a top of $1,059 to average $952.

Maunder Pastoral Co, Cambow, Amby sold Charolais cross steers to 455c/kg, reaching a top of $1,600 to average $1,413.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 366c/kg, reaching a top of $1,094 to average $991.

S & R White Family Trust, Tarrebar, Roma sold Angus steers to 454c/kg, reaching a top of $1,592 to average $1,491.  The Angus heifers sold to 368c/kg, reaching a top of $1,162 to average $1,144.

Eurara Pty Ltd, Noonga, Jackson sold Simmental cross steers to 452c/kg, reaching a top of $1,307 to average $1,253.

TA & RJ Wichlacz, Woodbine, Muckadilla sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 446c/kg, reaching a top of $1,536 to average $1,374.

Derbyshire Downs Past Co Pty Ltd, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $1,638 to average $1,510.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 346c/kg, reaching a top of $1,116 to average $1,079.

SP Castles & LD Paynter, Raceview, Charleville sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 400c/kg, reaching a top of $1,605 to average $1,458.

Cornish Grazing Pty Ltd, Strathdale, Mitchell sold Charolais steers to 375c/kg, reaching a top of $1,750 to average $1,682.

 

Heifers under 200kg topped at 352c/kg and averaged 308c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 378c/kg and averaged 334c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 370c/kg, averaging 326c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 362c/kg, averaging 294c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 364c/kg, averaging 303c/kg.

CR & JM Henry, Woodroyd, Wandoan sold Angus cross heifers to 352c/kg, reaching a top of $1,014 to average $937.

Sylvalee Grazing, Alice Downs, Morven sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 350c/kg, reaching a top of $1,301 to average $1,173.

CA Warrian, Blisworth, Injune sold Simmental heifers to 344c/kg, reaching a top of $1,708 to average $1,708.

 

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 268c/kg and averaged 184c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 288c/kg, averaging 244c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 299c/kg, averaging 273c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 310c/kg, averaging 288c/kg.
