Despite a cool snap in weather, the market continued to heat at the Roma Saleyards for quality lines of weaners and heavy feeders.
With just under 7,200 head of cattle yarded by the Roma agents, prices remained firm based on condition.
Several quality lines and large offerings were snapped up by an active buyer with all regular processors, feedlotters and backgrounders present.
The yarding featured cattle consigned primarily from the local Maranoa supply district, including Roma, Yuleba, Morven, Glenmorgan, Taroom and Surat.
Cattle were also drawn from as far afield as Boulia in the west, McKinlay in the north and Goodooga in the south.
The quality and selection of cattle on offer once again showcased Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.
Yearling steers in the 200 – 280kg weight range sold under the hammer for 306c/kg to 466c/kg for the better pens.
Yearling steers in the 400 – 480kg weight range bumped and made to 448c/kg.
JR and VM Brawne of ‘Yerura’ offloaded a quality line of 108 Angus steers to average 451c/kg weighing 318kg for a return of $1,431/hd.
Based out of Meandarra, a pen of Angus steers made 460c/kg to weigh 292kg and returned $1,342/hd.
A further pen of heavier of the steers fetched 428c/kg weighing at 263kg to make $1,590/hd.
The line was consigned through Nutrien with Dalby agent Brady Jackson.

Andrew Sutton of Sutton Beef from ‘Sunnybank’, Glenmorgan sold a large run of Santa Gertrudis cross steers and heifers.
A quality line of 338 Santa Gertrudis cross and Angus cross steers sold for an average 448c/kg weighing 269kg and returned $1,189/hd.
Two pens of Santa cross steers sold for a straight 452c/kg weighing in at 313kg to make $1,414/hd.
A further two pens fetched 456c/kg weighing an average 246kg for a return of $1,121/hd.
Today’s weaner turnoff is just the beginning for Glenmorgan based producers the Suttons, who are preparing to sell an entire line of their Santa Gertrudis breeders at a special sale in Roma on the 26th of June.
The line was consigned through GDL with Glenmorgan agent Russell Jorgensen and vendor Andrew Sutton.
‘Coogoon’ producers, the Dunn’s offloaded a quality line of 136 Angus cross steers fetching 445c/kg to weigh 305kg for a return of $1,355/hd.
Based south of Roma, the family operation made 460c/kg for a straight two pens of Angus cross steers weighing 285kg returning $1,311/hd.
A further pen of Angus cross steers fetched 419c/kg to weigh 341kg for a return of $1,430/hd.
Gerard and Robyn Dunn alongside daughter Lauren were all in attendance to mark the first weaner offload of the season for the Roma producers.

NLRS Commentary:
Cooler weather on the way Roma Agents yarded 7,137 head. All the regular processors feedlotters and backgrounders present. Once again, a quality yarding weaners and heavy feeders penned and small number of bullocks and cows. Cattle drawn from the regular supply as well as NSW. The market firm to slightly easier being quality related. Cows lacked competition thru out.
Yearling steers under 200kg topped 450c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg with the majority selling from 306c to 466c/kg for the better pens. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg lost ground and sold to 460c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg made from 340c to 386c/kg. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg sold to dearer trend and made to 390c to average 338c/kg.
Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg topped 350c to average 316c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made from 210c to 368c/kg for better lines. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg sold from 240c to 358c to average 301c/kg. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg topped 346c/kg.
Grown steers 400 to 500kg made from 330c to 358c/kg. Grown steers 500 to 600kg topped 327c/kg. A small number of bullocks over 600kg made to 310c/kg. Cow competition was very lack lustre thru out. A large number of store cows went back to restockers and sold from 148c to 185c/kg. The score 2 and 3 cows sold from 220 to 262c/kg. Bulls 450 to 600kg made to 300c and bulls over 600kg also made to 300c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 450c/kg and averaged 428c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 466c/kg and averaged 421c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 460c/kg and averaged 416c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 438c/kg and averaged 385c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 390c/kg and averaged 339c/kg.
DC Diamond Pastoral, Mirri Mirri, Hannaford, sold Charolais cross steers to 464c/kg, reaching a top of $1,429 to average $1,208. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 354c/kg, reaching a top of $1,109 to average $957.
