As the big dry sell-off continues, numbers fell short of the expected 10,000, with a total of 8,680 head. A big group of buyers was present, most holding restocker and feedlot orders from the north. However, young weaners experienced a price correction, generally dipping by 20c to 37c/kg. With Light weight steers, 280-330g, averaging $1,098 back to the paddock, while heifers averaged around $907/head. A considerable portion of the weaners were destined for Dubbo, Narrabri, Coonamble and Longreach just to name a few destinations.
In the feeder market, light weight steers eased 8c, trading at 310 to 414c/kg. Medium weights gained traction as the sale progressed, with all buyers chasing weight. Prices ranging from 310 to 441c/kg. For trade cattle, there were only limited heifers available, fetching between 310c to 390c/kg. Feeder heifers sold fluctuating prices due to a big variety of breeds and fat cover. Medium weights sold from 310-380c/kg. Lighter weights slipped 19c fetching from 260c to 365c/kg.
Heavy heifers with good finish and destined for processors ranged from 330 to 392c/kg, while only a few steers and bullocks traded between 285 to 380c/kg. Agents offered 2280 cows with every weight and grade represented. Heavy cows sold to subdued demand from Victoria resulting in a price drop of 17c, with the bulk selling from 264-286c/kg. The middle run of leaner cows under 520kg were supported by restocker interest, making 200-269c/kg. Lastly a big number of younger cows sold to restockers with some big pens of EU accredited in the mix. Prices ranged from 160-322c/kg.
