Dalby sale 4 Sep 2024: Prices ease with overall quality

Yarding 4786 Change  – 264

The supply of stock at Dalby continued to decline by a further 264 head down to 4,786.

The quality of a number of classes was not up to the standard of the previous week.

Buyer attendance was good and all were operating.

Prices generally could not maintain the levels of the previous sale however quality attributed to portion of the reductions.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers regained some of the previous weeks losses. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market experienced very little change in price. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 14c/kg less however top money remained close to the previous week.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock sold to a market over 20c/kg cheaper. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged over 30c/kg less with some of the losses attributed to the quality penned.

Bullocks experience very little change in price.

All classes of cows sold to a cheaper trend of 10c to 15c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 430c with a good sample averaging 390c and poor quality lines averaged 287c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged from 374c to 375c with sales to 399c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 390c to average 367c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers averaged 266c with occasional sales to 330c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 302c to 332c with sales to 358c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed also made to 358c with most around 309c/kg.

Bullocks made to 346c to average 342c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 248c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 293c to average 280c/kg. Good heavy weight cows averaged 296c with a couple of very heavy high yielding cows to 322c/kg to return $2,545/head.

Dalby cattle sale for this week was similar to last week. Buyers attendance was good and all operating. Market was not as strong as previous weeks with the better lines holding firm.
