Roma sale 25 July 2023: Rain halves yarding

Yarding 4375 Change – 4275

Isolated falls of rain across parts of the supply area reduced the number of cattle at the Roma store sale to half of the previous weeks level at 4,375.

A good panel of buyers was present and all were operating with stronger support from local and interstate processors.

Young light weight yearling steers and heifers experience very little change in price.

However some classes of yearling steers and heifers to feed improved in price.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks sold to a dearer market and cows were 10c to 15c/kg better.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg made to 362c to average 344c/kg.

Yearling steers 200 to 280kg made to 376c to average 345c/kg.

Yearling steers under 330kg returning to the paddock made to 362c also average 345c/kg.

Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 368c to average from 348c to 354c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 344c to average 330c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 262c to average 224c/kg.

Yearling heifers under 280kg made to 270c to average 251c/kg.

Yearling heifers to feed made to 295c to average from 264c to 292c/kg.

Bullocks made to 300c to average 291c/kg.

Heavy weight PTIC cows to restockers made to 238c/kg.

Heavy weight cows to export processors made to 240c to average 231c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls made to 274c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 372c/kg and averaged 334c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 376c/kg and averaged 342c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 362c/kg and averaged 334c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 368c/kg and averaged 338c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 344c/kg and averaged 317c/kg.

Athol Cleland, Marie Springs, Wallumbilla sold Angus cross steers to 372c/kg, reaching a top of $801 to average $757.

PA Campbell, Praire Vale, Augathella sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 368c/kg, reaching a top of $1,691 to average $1,242.

R.W. & K.E. Thorne, Holmleigh, Mitchell sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 362c/kg, reaching a top of $1,260 to average $1,043. The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $792 to average $695.

AR & SM Russell, Glenrowan, Augathella sold Charolais cross steers to 360c/kg, reaching a top of $1,184 to average $1,010.

P.F. & K.F. James, Lyndale, Wandoan sold Angus heifers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $944 to average $822.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 240c/kg and averaged 154c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 244c/kg, averaging 200c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 242c/kg, averaging 226c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 236c/kg, averaging 226c/kg.

Russell Ian Mocker, Surprise, St. George sold Santa Gertrudis cows to 236c/kg, reaching a top of $1,437 to average $1,397.

M & NE McKay, Macwood, St. George sold Santa Gertrudis cows to 234c/kg, reaching a top of $1,369 to average $1,309.

Bulls in the 400-500kg range reached 235c/kg and average 154c/kg. Bulls over 600kg topped at 296c/kg and averaged 264c/kg.
