Yarding 5502 Change –1070

The supply of stock reduced by 1070 head to 5,502 cattle at Dalby with 593 from far western Qld, 48 from Nsw and the balance from the local supply area. A full panel of local and interstate processors were present and operating with reduced rates for heavy bulls, cows and bullocks which saw reductions from 17c to 30c/kg across those export lines. The usual feeder and restocker buyers were present and operating on the suitable cattle to satisfy their orders with prices holding firm and only the plainer quality lines selling to cheaper prices. Light weight yearling steers to restockers made 704c to average 617c with those over 280kg selling to 658c and averaging 591c/kg. Yearling steers over 330kg to background made 614c to average 532c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to feed sold to 534c with restockers paying to 550c/kg. Yearling heifers over 200kg sold to 600c/kg. Yearling heifers over 280kg averaged 537c and sold to 564c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market made 536c with heavy yearling heifers to feed averaging 437c and selling to 496c/kg. Well finished young bullocks to processors made 395c to average 372 with the occasional sale to 402c/kg. Grown heifers to process averaged 379c and sold to 400c/kg. Light weight cows made 340c to average 325c with heavy cows to processors selling from 314c to 359c/kg. Heavy bulls made 359c to average 32c/kg. Quality cows an calves sold to $3250/unit.

5502 head yarded this week in Dalby with GDL bringing in 1574 of those. The buyers panel was full of the usual faces however one export buyer was not active. Prime cattle seemed to soften across the board with heavy cows averaging back to around 330c/kg and 340c/kg. Heavy bulls sold at a similar rate. Most of your bullocks sold around that 380c/kg mark and heavy heifers going to processors were close if not 10c/kg softer. Cattle going back to the paddock or to feed generally softened as well, however, the more in demand breeds and better types of cattle didn’t experience much change on last week.
