Wagga sale 21 June 2021: Big price gains in larger yarding

The Wagga cattle market recorded some significant price gains in a bigger yarding of 2700. Quality was mixed with very few cattle in genuine prime condition. Once again there was plenty of weight in the offering, with the bulk of the stock weighing more than 400kg.

The market opened up  on a very strong note with feeder steers prices jumping 20c/kg. As the market progressed Angus steers regularly hit 518c/kg. The bulk of the medium weight sold at 450-517c/kg. Lighter weight feed steers sold from 500-527c/kg.

Steers returning to the paddock on a dollar per head basis averaged $1705 for 280-330kg weight range. Store heifers returning to the paddock were keenly sought selling at 495-572c/kg.

Feeder heifers attracted a bigger gallery of buyers resulting in a dearer trend of 15c/kg. The bulk selling from 444c to 506c/kg.

Trade heifers benefited from stronger feedlot demand which help push prices 13c higher to average 451c/kg. Trade steers sold to strong competition from Victorian processors lifting 30c to record a top price of 518c/kg.

Processor demand for heavy steers ramped up notably with rates impressive. . Heavy C3  steers jumped 58c selling at 400-480c/kg the feeder portion also topped at 480c/kg. C4 bullocks gained 23c making from 380c to 430c/kg.

Cow numbers were similar with 575 yarded. Quality was excellent with most heavy four and 5 score types. Despite not all processors operating prices lifted 23c with heavy cows making from 320c to 352c/kg. PTIC cows weighing 587kg recorded a top price of 480c/kg.
