Victorian seedstock producer Paringa Livestock has announced what is believed to be an international first for Australian beef cattle genetics sold at auction.

Paringa livestock principal Tom Lawson, from Yea in Victoria, yesterday announced that Paringa Iron Ore E27 had been successfully syndicated in the United States this week, with a 50 percent share of North American semen rights sold for US$50,000.

Iron Ore E27 is a 100pc outcross with no Red Angus lines in his pedigree.

The cow side of Iron Ore E27’s pedigree features six consecutive generations of donor females from both the Paringa and the Te Mania Angus program.

Mr Lawson said the international interest in Iron Ore E27’s genetics was driven by “the prospect of an outcross Red Angus sire with an exceptional EBV profile combined with good feet and udders”.

Ten US Red Angus breeders each purchased a 5 percent share in the bull: Leachman Cattle of Colorado, Bieber Red Angus, RA Brown Ranch, Lorenzen Ranches, Leland Red Angus, Hueftle Red Angus, Strawberry Ridge Red Angus, Rhodes Red Angus, Sonstegard Cattle Co. and TJS Red Angus.

“Paringa Iron Ore E27 is truly a unique bull with super calving, growth, muscle and marbling,” Mr Lawson said.

“His daughters' calving prediction ranks him at the top of the Angus breed. His Breedplan EBVs along with his actual data and first calves on the ground make him stand out sire prospect.

“Phenotypically, Iron Ore is sound, quiet and attractive. His first calves are consistently small at birth and vigorous with style and presence.

“We are excited that leading cattle programs from the US have recognized the value in our breeding program.”
