Roma store 3 Nov 2020: Steers dominate 6491 head yarding

GDL Roma auctioneer Jack Hannah with a line of Iwona Partnership heifers. The heifers sold to 524c/kg, reaching a top of $1,381 to average $1,306. The steers sold to 520c/kg, reaching a top of $1,423 to average $1,417.

Yarding  6,491 Change 2,737 head.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the usual supply area and the overall quality of the yarding was good, with prices reflective of quality variations.

Steers accounted for half of the yarding.

A good buying panel, with a continued southern presence and all processors were operating to firm competition.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers improved by 1c to 6c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed fell by 6c to 21c, however medium weight yearling steers to feed under 400kg improved by 8c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed fell by 5c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg eased in price by 16c/kg.

However strong restocker competition saw light weight yearling heifers under 280kg improve by 7c, and medium weight heifers under 330kg gained 13c/kg.

Processor competition saw heavy weight finished grown steers improve by 2c/kg.

Grown heifers improved in price by 11c to 26c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows held firm and remained unchanged, while the remainder of cows yarded saw a slight fall in prices with medium weight cows easing by 1c to 3c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers sold to 614.2c to average 576c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 578.2c to average 517c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed sold to 494.2c to average 449c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 462.2c to average 441c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 436.2c to average 417c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 576.2c to average 531c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 546.2c to average 490c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 468.2c to average 437c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers made to 442.2c to average 412c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 402.2c to average 397c/kg.

The best of the grown steers sold to 400.2c to average 379c/kg. The best of the grown heifers reached a top of 382.2c to average 376c/kg. Restocker competition for cows saw a single vendor line of medium weight PTIC Angus cows reach a top of 380.2c to average 380c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows to processors sold to a top of 314.2c to average 307c/kg. Medium weight 4 score cows reached a top of 318.2c to average 317c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 315.2c to average 310c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 326.2c to average 321c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 357.2c to average 340c/kg. Cows and calves reached a top of $1990/unit.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 494c/kg and averaged 435c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 462c/kg and averaged 414c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 438c/kg and averaging 384c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,990/unit.
