This line of 80 EU weaned Angus steers, 7-8 months averaging 218kg from Black Mountain, NSW made 606c/kg this week, while a further 24 lighter steers 148kg from the same vendor 633c.

MOST steer categories showed a rise in price this week on AuctionsPlus, where listing numbers increased to 19,800 head across the commercial sales, up 1534 on last week.

The increased catalogue saw a drop in clearances, with 70pc sold, but prices remained firm to dearer.

Cow & calf units were up $293 on last week, while light steers less than 200kg were up 51c. The NSW Northwest slopes & plain dominated the purchasing this week, followed by Central West NSW, as areas continue to look to re-stock.

Strong feature sale results continued this week with the Nutrien Livestock Twilight “Hume Highway Herd Builder Sale” offering 1729 head, reaching an 87pc clearance. Also this week, AuctionsPlus interfaced both the SELX and Myrtleford store sales.

Cow and calf units continued to sell well, achieving an 81pc clearance. Prices remained strong ranging from $1860 to $3520, averaging $2486, up $293. Top price went to a line of Mt William blood Charolais cows and calves, from Reeder Aust, Colac West, VIC, which are heading to a buyer in Echuca, VIC. The cows were aged from 2-4 years, averaged 649kg and have been joined to Charolais bulls. The calves at foot were 3-14 weeks averaging 107kg.

Another highlight was a line of Angus cows and calves from Bolaro Pastoral Co, Dunedoo, NSW which sold to a buyer at Coonabarabran, NSW for $2960. These cows were aged 4-6 years, averaging 508kg and were joined to Hereford bulls. The Limousin and Angus calves at foot were 2-4 months averaging 130kg.

PTIC cows sold from $1130 to $2250 this week, averaging $1941, down $18 on last week. Numbers offered bumped up to 2014, with clearance hitting 76. Top price went to a line of Angus cows from Finlay Family Past, Morven, NSW, which are heading south to the Riverina, NSW. These cows were aged 5-7 years, averaging 603kg and were PTIC to Dunoon Angus Bulls.

A line of registered Raff blood Angus cows from Roma, QLD sold for $2260 to a buyer in Emerald, QLD. These cows were 3-11 years, averaged 624kg and PTIC to Wagyu bulls.

PTIC heifer numbers jumped to 1822 head and reached a 68pc clearance. Prices ranged from $1230 to $2650, to average $1799, firm on last week. Top price went to Bongongo Angus from Tumblong, NSW which offered Angus heifers 20-21 months averaging 490kg and PTIC to Angus bulls. They head to Glenburn, VIC.

From Kangaloon, NSW an unusual offering of Fleckvieh heifers sold for $2540 to a buyer in Myrtleford, VIC. These heifers were 18-30 months, averaging 483kg and were PTIC to Limousin bulls.

Lights steers less than 200kg sold from 461-633c this week, averaging 535c, up 51c. Top price went to a line of 24 EU-eligible Angus steers 7 months averaging 148kg, from Black Mountain, NSW. From Victoria Hill, QLD a line of Ben Nevis and Kilburnie blood Angus steers, 8-10 months averaging 196kg, sold for 539c.

Steers 200-280kg sold from 334c to 606c this week, averaging 495c, up 27c. Top price went to a line of 80 EU weaned steers, 7-8 months averaging 218kg from Black Mountain, NSW. From Glenburn, VIC a line of Angus steers, 6-7 months averaging 218kg sold for 569c.

Steers 280-330kg sold from 343c to 477c, averaging, 412c, down 8c. Top price went to a line of Angus steers 13-15 months averaging 287kg from Grong Grong, NSW. Another highlight was a line of 8-10 month old, Angus x Charolais steers, 328kg from Denman, NSW which sold for 444c.

Feeder steers averaging 330-400kg sold from 352c to 457c this week, averaging 394c, up 14c. Top price went to a line of Angus steers offered by RD & RV Cox, Deepwater, NSW, 17-19 months averaging 330kg. From Cecil Plains, QLD a line of F1 Wagyu cross steers 16-29 months averaging 395kg sold for 441c.

Heavy steers above 400kg sold from 369-414c this week, averaging 393c, up 11c. Top price went to a line of Coolana Blood Angus steers13-14 months averaging 423kg, from Hawkesdale, VIC. From Wistow, SA 11-12 month old Angus steers averaging 401kg sold for 412c.

Light heifers less than 200kg sold from 393c to 544c this week, averaging 468c, down 11c. Top price went to Dunmore Pastoral, Cecil Plains, QLD which offered a line of Angus heifers 5-7 months averaging 153kg. From Gloucester, NSW Angus heifers, aged 5-6 months averaging 177kg sold for 492c.

Heifers 200 to 280kg sold from 330c to 525c this week, averaging 448c, down 9c. Top price went to Oakburn Pastoral Co, Walcha, NSW for a line of Angus x Hereford heifers, 8-9 months averaging 210kg. From Deepwater, NSW a line of Hereford heifers 7-9 months, averaging 222kg sold for 487c.

Heifers 280 to 330kg sold from 295c to 455c this week, averaging 381c, down 11c. Top price went to Boningar Pastoral Co, Glenmorgan, QLD for EU Santa heifers, 14-16 months averaging 321kg. From Rye Park, NSW a line of Angus heifers, 8-9 months averaging 306kg sold for 428c.

Feeder heifers 330 to 400kg sold from 301c to 418c this week, averaging 377c, up 2c. Top price went to DB & IM Stewart, Inverell, NSW for 18-20 month old Angus heifers, averaging 354kg. From Denman, NSW a line of Angus x Charolais heifers, 8-10 months averaging 331kg sold for 408c.

Heavy heifers more than 400kg sold from 326c to 398c, averaging 371c, up 6c. Top price went to A S Cain, Heywood, VIC for a line of EU Angus heifers, 16-18 months averaging 412kg.

In Tasmania this week, numbers ease to 334 head, back from the jump to 1089 last week. Demand remained strong achieving a 72pc clearance with stock selling from $960 to $2070 to average $1534, a $273 rise on last week.

A large offering of PTIC cows saw prices range from $1300 to $1890, averaging $1729, up $24. Top price was 44-46 month old PTIC Angus cows averaging 518kg were PTIC to Angus bulls. Weaner steers sold from $1080 to $1270 or 352c to 391c, averaging $1168, up $63 on last week. From Beulah, AV & M Spillane offered the top priced steers averaging 380kg. The mixed line of Poll Hereford and Murray Grey steers aged 7-10 months will be remaining local.
