Dalby sale 11 Dec 2019: Prime cattle firm, store cows stronger

Yarding 4270 Change -1266

Numbers reduced by 1266 head to 4270, for the second last sale before the Christmas break.

Mixed quality cows continued to dominate the grown cattle section, with more than half of the cows returning to the paddock.

The usual feeder and restocker buyers were in attendance and operating, however two of the major export processors were absent from the buying panel.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock improved in price for the quality penned. Yearling steers to feed the domestic market averaged 1c to 10c/kg better. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed lifted in price by 14c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feed, restockers or background averaged 20c/kg dearer. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed improved by 17c/kg. Poor condition cows returning to the paddock improved in price by 8c and up to 30c/kg in places. However heavy cows to processors sold to within 1c to 2c/kg of the previous sale.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 260.2c to average 238c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 251c with sales to 298.2c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged in the 290c range with sales to 311.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 315c to average 306c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers averaged 225c with sales to 250.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 280.2c with the largest numbers averaging 255c/kg.

Light weight poor condition cows returned to the paddock at an average of 136c, and the medium weights averaged 179c and made to 193.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores to processors averaged 173c and made to 187.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 221.2c to average 213c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 284.2c/kg
