Roma store sale 5 June 2019: Quality steer rates lift

TopX agent Cyril Close with the Derbyshire Downs steers. The steers sold to 330c/kg, reaching a top of $1,116 to average $987.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area and a good panel of buyers was present and operating.

The overall quality of the yarding was good. Again demand was strong in isolated patches for top of the line steers. Quality lines of steers across the weight brackets mostly saw improvements. Heifers eased overall while cows improved.

A good number of lightweight yearling steers under 280kg rose by 1c/kg. A fair sample of medium weight yearling steers under 330kg rose by 23c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed rose by 12c/kg.

Lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg fell 2c to 30c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers fell by 11c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows rose by 19c and the medium weight 3 score cows rose by 1c/kg. Heavy weight 2 score cows rose by 8c while the heavy weight 3 score cows rose by 3c/kg.

A good number of quality lightweight yearling steers under 280kg sold to 317.2c to average 281c/kg. A fair sample of medium weight yearling steers under 330kg sold to 330.2c to average 306c/kg. The best of the medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 270.2c to average 256c while heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed sold to 284.2c to average 269c/kg.

A good sample of lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 246.2c to average 230c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers made to 242.2c to average 228c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to slaughter sold to 270.2c to average 267c/kg

. A fair number of grown steers sold to 277.2c to average 277 c/kg. The best of the grown heifers sold to 247.2c to average 219c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows made to 184.2c to average 167c while the medium weight 3 score cows sold to 210.2c to average 196c/kg. Heavy weight 2 score cows sold to 183.2c to average 167c and the heavy weight 3 score cows made to 216.2c to average 202c/kg. The best of the bulls under 600kg to live export made to 272.2c to average 266c/kg

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 292c/kg and averaged 232c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 330c/kg and averaged 258c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 338c/kg and averaged 280c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 281c/kg and averaged 263c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 288c/kg and averaging 275c/kg.

Whitton Cattle Co, Myrtleville, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 338c/kg, reaching a top of $1,035 to average $968. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 246c/kg, reaching a top of $814 to average $776.

Derbyshire Downs Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella sold Charolais cross steers to 330c/kg, reaching a top of $1,116 to average $987.

AJ & KA Curtis, Scottland Downs, Lundavra sold Charbray cross steers to 324c/kg, reaching a top of $1,027 to average $1,027.

Walker & Co, Tulmur Station, Winton sold Santa steers to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $1,391 to average $923. The Santa heifers sold to 246c/kg, reaching a top of $661 to average $588.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 246c/kg and averaged 202c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 248c/kg and averaged 213c/kg. Heifers in the 280- 350kg range topped at 246c/kg, averaging 211c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 254c/kg, averaging 224c/kg.

Huckitta Enterprise, Huckitta, Alice Springs sold Droughtmaster heifers to 240c/kg, reaching a top of $842 to average $595.

RM & TL Ferguson, Bitmor, Roma sold Charolais cross heifers to 240c/kg, reaching a top of $798 to average $798.

WA & KE Freeman, Meeleebee Downs, Wallumbilla sold Santa heifers to 240c/kg, reaching a top of $720 to average $627.

GL & JA Bryant, Amarillo, Roma sold Droughtmaster heifers to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $810 to average $810.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 188c/kg and averaged 129c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 230c/kg and averaged 172c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 216c/kg, averaging 195c/kg.
