STRONG listings out of New South Wales boosted numbers offered on the AuctionsPlus online marketing platform to 6903 head this week.
NSW listings more than doubled to 4234 head, while Queensland numbers were up slightly to 1888 head.
Clearance at auction was 50 percent, with a softening cattle market due to lack of rain in many areas likely attributing to the decline.
Steers were in abundance again, making up just over 40pc of listings. This was boosted by several large lines coming out of QLD and NSW. Unjoined females followed closely behind representing 37pc of this week’s catalogues.
Cow and calf prices eased, averaging $1425 and reaching a top of $1840 for a line of crossbred first calvers with Angus and Limousin calves at foot from Yarragadee, Goolma, NSW.
Another line of 23-24 month old Shorthorn cows also on their first calf sold for $1830. These girls from Gobothery, Forbes, NSW had Angus and Shorthorn calves at foot. Further south, a line of four-year-old Hereford cows with Wagyu cross calves at foot from Howman Pastoral, Myrtleford, VIC sold for $1575.
Joined females averaged $1460 this week, selling to a top of $1840 for a line of Banquet Angus blood heifers from McClelland Agriculture, Leslie Manor, VIC. The same vendor sold an older line of 3-5 year old cows for $1500. Another line of Reiland Angus blood heifers from Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, made $1820.
In a breakdown of young cattle sold, by weightrange:
- Steers less than 250kg sold from 289c to 394c/kg to average 345c (down); while heifers sold from 270-390c to average 317c (up)
- Steers 250-300kg sold from 282-335c to average 319c (down); while heifers sold from 264-363c to average 298c (down)
- Steers 300-350kg sold from 272-318c to average 302c (up); while heifers sold from 267-318c to average 287c (down)
- Steers 350kg + sold from 293-341c to average 317c (up) ; while heifers sold from 258-278c to average 268c (down)
