Queensland Police have named the pilot who died yesterday enroute to a mustering job in northwest Queensland.

40-year-old father of two, Brent Acton died when his Robinson R22 helicopter crashed into a paddock on Lanark Property, 7km north of Cloncurry, and burst into flames about 7.15am on August 2.

The Townsville Bulletin reported today that Mr Acton was flying to a station further north to do some mustering.

Mr Acton is a former student of Toowoomba Grammar School and Emerald Agricultural College, was working for Cloncurry Mustering Company.

It is understood Brent is closely related to the prominent Acton Family behind the Super Beef brand.

He is survived by wife Shona and two young sons.

Police have said it is not known if Mr Acton’s helicopter hit the powerlines or if there was a mechanical failure that led to the crash.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said today it is investigating a wirestrike and collision with terrain involving Robinson R22 helicopter 7 km north-west of Cloncurry on Wednesday.

Two investigators, with expertise in helicopter maintenance and operation, have deployed to the site and are expected to commence examination of the wreckage and accident site today.
