Supply chain field day marks Weebolla’s half-century in breeding bulls

Beef Central 18/07/2017

CELEBRATING 50 years of Shorthorn bull breeding this year, the Munro family is inviting beef industry stakeholders to Weebollabolla, near Moree in northern NSW on 31 July for a field day exploring the theme ‘Taking it to the next level’.

“The idea of this field day evolved from our recent collaboration with NH Foods and the market re-positioning in the industry,” said Weebollabolla co-principal, Jen Jeffreys.

“We’re always looking at ways we can improve our business and opportunities to support the industry so we decided to share this experience by presenting a field day,” she said.

The day will include a strong line up of speakers exploring different aspects of red meat production. Heading to Weebollabolla to share their knowledge are speakers including:

  • Sam Newsome, from Newsome Ag, who will present ‘Trade Secrets: What do the top 20pc of producers all have in common’.
  • Sarah Strachan, MSA program manager, who will address the question, ‘How can carcase feedback improve performance?’
  • After lunch the focus moves to the NH Foods and Weebollabolla collaboration and producer opportunities on the back of this presented by Andrew McDonald, NH Foods Oakey.
  • The final guest speaker for the day is Tom Bull, Lambpro who will look at the redesigning of the business’s sheep programs for profits and markets, and what the cattle sector can learn from this experience.

‘Today consumers expect a quality eating experience, and the market is repositioning itself so this collaboration with NH Foods is a natural alliance that will help to meet this burgeoning demand and open opportunities for other producers,’ Ms Jeffreys said.

The Munro family’s history and proven Shorthorn genetics on Weebollabolla spans five generations.

‘It’s been persistence and continued innovation that has seen our generations of our family through every challenge the Australian Beef industry has faced over our 144-year history,” Ms Jeffreys said.

This year the Munro family is celebrating its 50th on-property Shorthorn bull sale, on Friday 22 September.
