Weekly NLRS Roma Store Sale commentary:

Yarding 6682, Change -2936

Yarding numbers declined 30%. The quality of cattle penned varied from very plain to good with larger numbers of young, light weight steers and heifers consigned. Restocker buyers paid up to 290c for steer calves, while light weight yearling steers were 5c/kg cheaper.

A full panel of feedlot buyers were present, but were more selective when purchasing. Queensland and southern processors displayed solid demand for suitable yearling and grown heifers, while feedlot buyers appeared eager to secure good quality light weight yearling heifers. Both restocker and processors were active on suitable cows. Cows and calves sold to $1,250 and averaged $936/unit. Calves sold to 290c and averaged 266c/kg. Light weight yearling steers reached 280c and averaged between 248c and 259c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers reached 264c and averaged 239c, down 6c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 270c and averaged 252c, up 4c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock earned to 250c and averaged between 232c and 240c, while those to feedlot buyers hit 238c and averaged 221c/kg. Those to processors sold to 240c and averaged between 205c and 213c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to processors topped at 248c and averaged 210c, while a pen to a restocker reached 222c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers made to 229c and averaged between 197c and 211c/kg. Grown steers to feed topped at 228c and averaged between 212c and 221c/kg. Grown heifers to processors sold to 216c and averaged 207c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows earned to 187c and averaged 174c, while heavy weight 3 score cows reached 195c and averaged 177c/kg. A few to restockers sold to 175c and averaged 167c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 202c and averaged 195c/kg.

Roma light steers make 290c/kg

A total of 6682 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 290c/kg and averaged 249c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 272c/kg and averaged 243c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 270c/kg and averaged 241c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 264c/kg and averaged 234c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 270c/kg and averaging 233c/kg.

Cam Colley, Brucedale, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 272c/kg for 226kg to return $616/head.

A & R Scott, Mayfield South, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 271c for 226kg to return $614. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 222c for 269kg to return $597.

D & S Rowbotham, White Park, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 270c for 476kg to return $1286.

Bruce Walker, The Farm, Roma, sold Charolais steers to 270c for 287kg to return $776.

Farmleigh Pastoral Co, Farmleigh, Mitchell, sold Charolais steers to 266c for 286kg to return $761.

Wellesley Pastoral Co, Wellesley, Surat, sold Charolais-cross steers to 266c for 243kg to return $649.

Bryce Rolfe, Nindinna, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 264c for 399kg to return $1054.

Rosemount Grazing Co, Rosemount, Barcaldine, sold Charolais steers to 257c for 411kg to return $1059.

G & J Faulkner, Kintilloch, Roma, sold Charolais steers to 256c for 272kg to return $698.

W Proud & D Brumpton, Scattering Plains, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 256c for 263kg to return $674. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 224c for 257kg to return $577.

Tim O’Brien, Tyrone, Roma, sold Shorthorn-cross steers to 255c for 459kg to return $1170.

M & L Gosper, The Glen, Condamine, sold Santa-cross steers to 250c for 313kg to return $785. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 223c for 307kg to return $685.

T & H Naprasnik, Bungaroo, Yuleba, sold Santa-cross steers to 244c for 397kg to return $969.

P & M Maunder, Burnside, Wallumbilla, sold Santa heifers to 214c for 215kg to return $460.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 248c/kg and averaged 204c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 248c/kg and averaged 205c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 228c/kg and averaged 208c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 250c/kg and averaged 218c/kg.

S Kidman & Co, Morney Plains, Windorah, sold Santa-cross heifers to 236c for 152kg to return $360.

Wallabella, Wallumbilla, sold Brangus-cross heifers sold to 230c for 309kg to return $712.

Warby & Warby, Wybara, Roma, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 229c for 400kg to return $918.

Rotherfield Grazing Co, Glenavalon, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross heifers to 220c for 372kg to return $820.

Cows over 500kg sold to 202c/kg and averaged 189c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 192c/kg and averaged 170c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 156c/kg and averaged 139c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1250/unit and averaged $936.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 258c/kg and average 235c/kg.
