Stuart Ramsey’s Channel Country station heads to auction

Prominent Australian millionaire businessman, producer and thoroughbred horse owner-breeder Stuart Ramsey has listed his vast organically certified cattle station in the Channel Country of western Queensland.

Purchased by Mr Ramsey in October 2014, the 142,474ha Flodden Hills Station is 95km west of Jundah and 110km north-west of Windorah in the Barcoo Shire.

The country features a blend of productive open downs, creek flood-out areas, stony ridges and edible mulga.

It typically runs around 1800 breeders along with replacement heifers, weaners and heavier carcase-weight cattle under an established low-cost organic beef production system.

Bartlett & Co agent Andrew Adcock said Flodden Hills operates as a low maintenance and easy to operate beef producing enterprise.

“The pastures are in great condition because the vendor has spent the last couple of years reducing stock numbers ahead of the sale.”

Mr Adcock said Flodden Hills is an exceptional opportunity to expand into a proven cattle operation while tapping into premium organic markets.

“The property combines significant scale and clean, healthy country with established infrastructure, allowing a new owner to immediately drive value through certified organic beef production.”

“Organic certification gives the new owner a major marketing advantage, unlocking higher returns by opening doors to a reliable and growing organic beef market,” Mr Adcock explained.

Flodden Hills is extensively watered by natural creeks and fenced dams, with some equipped with solar-powered pumps and troughs, monitored by Farmbots.

Infrastructure includes a home, a four-bedroom donga and seven cattle yards.

Mr Ramsey is retaining the registered Flodden Hills Regeneration Project, a human-induced native forest regeneration initiative registered in 2017 under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) scheme.

Flodden Hills will be auctioned on a bare basis by Bartlett & Co agents Andrew Adcock and Sam Bartlett on November 6.

Campbells list dress circle Augathella country

Prairie in the ‘dress circle’ of Augathella in south-west Queensland has been listed for sale by the Campbell family after three generations of ownership.

The 4673ha property, 26km north-west of Augathella, has been owned and operated by the Campbells who have a long-standing reputation in the region for breeding and turning off quality Santa Gertrudis and Santa Gertrudis cross cattle.

Nutrien Harcourts GDL agents David Benham and Rick Benham said Prairie provides a proven platform for the next owner.

“It could be used for breeding, backgrounding and finishing, or as a large-scale cattle depot for a northern producer. Its location provides convenient access to eastern markets, while its highway position offers an important logistical advantage for the movement of cattle.”

The country ranges from fertile red loams through to heavier chocolate and pebbly soils, together with productive Nive River loams, growing abundant buffel grass.

Prairie is timbered with brigalow, bottle tree, bauhinia, carbine and coolibah, with areas of mulga retained as a valuable drought-management resource.

The agents said the property has been thoughtfully developed and cleared, with extensive areas stick-raked while retaining valuable timber for shade, shelter and long-term grazing resilience.

There is also potential to cultivate suitable areas for forage crops, providing an opportunity to further enhance cattle production and finishing capability.

Water is supplied by two equipped bores and two dams, supported by 533mm of average annual rainfall.

Infrastructure includes a four-bedroom home, steel cattle yards and two sheds.

$13.5m for CQ calf factory

A reliable calf factory in Central Queensland has been listed for $13.5 million by Simon McAuley-Powell, including around 800 head of mostly Brahman cattle.

The 6085ha Langdale is 43km north-west of Marlborough, with easy access to major services, processors and livestock selling complexes at Rockhampton and Mackay.

Mr McAuley-Powell from Stockyard near Clarke Creek is downsizing after 11 years of ownership.

Nutrien Harcourts GDL agent Bill Reid said most of the inquiry is coming from producers seeking a finishing block.

“Langdale has been developed into a productive beef operation, typically producing large numbers of calves and fattened cull heifers.”

“Offered with a carrying capacity of 1000 breeders, the property has consistently run a large number of breeders providing the ability to stand on its own or complement an existing operation,” Mr Reid said.

The lightly timbered country features box, blue gum, bloodwood and patches of brigalow, with some ironbark and rosewood ridges.

Soil types range from black and sandy soils to red ridges growing buffel, rhodes, bluegrass and paspalum pastures, along with legumes mixed with soft native grasses and spear grass ridges.

Langdale is watered by nine dams and three equipped bores.

The Bluff lists for $30m+

The Webb family is seeking offers above $30 million for its extensively developed North Queensland cattle breeding and backgrounding property after it failed to sell at auction.

Spanning 31,400ha in the Goldfields region, The Bluff is located 32km from Charters Towers and comprises 18,000ha of Goldfields country and 13,000ha of rangelands.

During their 15 year ownership, the Webbs have invested heavily in pasture improvement, water infrastructure and operational efficiency.

Around 8800ha have been aerially seeded, while a further 200ha has been deep-ripped and sown to buffel grass and a Goldfields mega-stylo mix.

JLL Agribusiness senior director Chris Holgar said the legume-based pastures have fundamentally changed the property’s productive capacity.

“This, together with a system that provides water within a 3km radius, has increased the sustainable carrying capacity to 4500 Adult Equivalents, while also improving fertility, weight gain and consistent performance through dry seasons.”

Over the past five years, the property has averaged 2460 breeders plus followers.

The Webb family produces flatback cattle for a range of markets, including live export through the Port of Townsville, processors at Townsville and Rockhampton and domestic buyers to the south.

Agent Clayton Smith said The Bluff is one of the region’s most efficient cattle enterprises.

“The property represents 15 years of strategic investment by the Webb family and a turnkey operation where the hard work has been done.”

“Buyers are acquiring not just land, but a complete production system developed to maximise efficiency and output,” he said.

Mr Smith said the property’s proximity to Charters Towers is a major advantage.
