Roma sale 30 June 2026: New financial year sees numbers surge to 8471 head

NLRS Commentary:

With the end of the financial year upon us Roma Agents yarded 8,471 head. A very good quality yarding presented with all categories represented. All the regular buyers attending and active with the market very solid for steers, heifers were erratic and cows and bulls could not sustain the levels of the previous sale.

Yearling steers under 200 kg topped 586c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold from 428c to 612c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg also improved to make 602c to average 573c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg made from 420c to 604c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg selling from 446c to 568c to lotfeeders and 560c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers over 480kg made to 522c/kg to lotfeeders.

Yearling heifers under 200kg topped 474c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg sold from 308c to 542c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg improved to make 532c to average 489c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg made from 380c to 528c to lotfeeders and 542c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg selling to 530c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers over 480kg made to 490c/kg to Lot Feeders.

Grown steers 400 to 500kg made 500c/kg to lotfeeders. Grown steers 500-600kg made to 538c/kg to lotfeeders. Bullocks over 600kg sold to 460c/kg to processors. Grown heifers over 540kg sold to 428c/kg to processors.

Another large offering of cows yarded. The market could not sustain the levels of the previous sale. The 3 score cows over 520kg topped 388c/kg to processors. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 202c to 355c/kg to processors. Bulls over 600kg sold to 462c/kg to processors.

Highlights

As bids arose from the laneways of the Roma Saleyards at this week’s sale, the regular buyers, feedlotters and backgrounders competed for the yarding which saw firm prices reflected across many pens of quality cattle.

Sale numbers were on the rise this week, with an offering of over 8,400 head penned to go under the hammer.

Cattle were drawn from many areas throughout the Maranoa supply district including Injune, Jackson, Mungallala, Roma, Surat and Yuleba.

In addition to this, across Queensland consignments travelled from Cloncurry, Kajabbi and McKinlay in the north, from Augathella, Ilfracombe, Longreach and Winton in the west and from Chinchilla, Drillham and Dulacca in the east.

Cattle also travelled from as far afield as Tibooburra in New South Wales to go to market.

 

Farmleigh Grazing offloaded steers at this week’s sale, selling to 452c/kg to average 655kg and receive a return of $2,962/hd.

Operating out of ‘Farmleigh’, Injune, one pen of Angus cross steers fetched 460c/kg, weighing in at 660kg and making $3,039/hd.

One pen of Charolais cross steers sold to 454c/kg to weigh 665kg and return $3,020/hd.

One pen of Brahman cross steers made 452c/kg, averaging 628kg and receiving $2,842/hd.

SD & MJ Russell offloaded steers to 600c/kg, weighing in at 279kg and receiving a return of $1,678/hd.

Hailing from ‘Willara’, Augathella, one pen of Charolais cross steers sold to 612c/kg, averaging 238kg and making $1,458/hd.

Another pen of Charolais cross steers fetched 602c/kg, to weigh 286kg and return $1,724/hd.

The line was consigned through Watkins and Company.

Rostock Holdings Pty Ltd’s steers.

Rostock Holdings Pty Ltd, based out of ‘Rostock’, Yuleba, sold one pen of Angus cross steers to 604c/kg to average 357kg and receive $2,161/hd.

The line was consigned through Grant Daniel and Long Roma.

The Jones’ steers.

The Jones’ of ‘Evergreen’, Injune, offloaded steers at this week’s sale, selling to 594c/kg to weigh 284kg and receive a return of $1,691/hd.

One pen of Charolais cross steers made 602c/kg, weighing in at 245kg and receiving $1,479/hd.

The Jones’ also sold two pens of Simbrah cross steers and they fetched 600c/kg.

The heavier pen of Simbrah cross steers weighed in at 306kg and made $1,840/hd and the second pen averaged 265kg and returned $1,594/hd.

The lines were consigned through Nutrien Ag Solutions Roma.

A total of 8471 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 586c/kg and averaged 524c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 612c/kg and averaged 578c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 602c/kg and averaged 577c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 604c/kg and averaged 531c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 568c/kg and averaged 498c/kg.

SD & MJ Russell, Willara, Augathella, sold Charolais cross steers to 612c/kg, reaching a top of $1,997 to average $1,678.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 508c/kg, reaching a top of $2,492 to average $1,418. The Charolais cross cows sold to 385c/kg, reaching a top of $2,539 to average $2,285.

Rostock Holdings Pty Ltd, Yuleba sold Angus cross steers to 604c/kg, reaching a top of $2,161 to average $2,161.

Des & Wendy Jones, Evergreen, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 602c/kg, reaching a top of $2,236 to average $1,691.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 518c/kg, reaching a top of $1,537 to average $1,332.

IJ & SF Harland, Atlanta, Injune sold Limousin steers to 596c/kg, reaching a top of $2,009 to average $1,620.  The Limousin heifers sold to 496c/kg, reaching a top of $2,205 to average $1,291.

Derbyshire Downs Past Co Pty Ltd, Derbyshire, Augathella sold Angus cross steers to 596c/kg, reaching a top of $2,182 to average $2,117.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 530c/kg, reaching a top of $1,685 to average $1,685.

JH & EM & NJ McEwan, Nalderra, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 594c/kg, reaching a top of $1,823 to average $1,642.

Gall & Co Pty Ltd, Taroom, sold Charolais cross steers to 590c/kg, reaching a top of $2,015 to average $1,500.  The Angus heifers sold to 542c/kg, reaching a top of $1,718 to average $1,292.

WJ & EC Groat Family Trust, Gracemere, Mitchell sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 586c/kg, reaching a top of $2,096 to average $1,837.

Bonanza Park Grazing Trust, Bonanza Park, Wandoan sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 585c/kg, reaching a top of $2,612 to average $2,027.

LRC Grazing, Abbington, Ballaroo sold Angus cross steers to 570c/kg, reaching a top of $2,365 to average $1,898.  The Droughtmaster cross cows sold to 371c/kg, reaching a top of $2,292 to average $2,143.

Noel Weaver, Cotswold, Mitchell sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 568c/kg, reaching a top of $2,443 to average $1,678.

PW & DC Heinemann, Cungela Station, Charleville sold Simmental cross steers to 558c/kg, reaching a top of $2,451 to average $2,231. The Simmental cross heifers sold to 530c/kg, reaching a top of $2,196 to average $1,982.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 474c/kg and averaged 412c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 542c/kg and averaged 477c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 534c/kg, averaging 465c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 534c/kg, averaging 413c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 510c/kg, averaging 402c/kg.

Freeman Pastoral Company, Miley View, Roma sold Angus cross heifers to 534c/kg, reaching a top of $1,966 to average $1,608.

Doce Pastoral, Pleasant Hills, Roma sold Angus cross heifers to 532c/kg, reaching a top of $1,874 to average $1,640.

South Muthong Pty Ltd, South Muthong, Dirranbandi sold Angus cross heifers to 528c/kg, reaching a top of $1,860 to average $1,346.

MRB Contracting, Mossview Lodge, Roma sold Angus cross heifers to 524c/kg, reaching a top of $1,489 to average $1,489.

CR & JM Henry, Woodroyd, Wandoan sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 508c/kg, reaching a top of $1,731 to average $1,361.

Arbroath Grazing Co, Massey Lane, Roma sold Simmental cross heifers to 428c/kg, reaching a top of $2,983 to average $2,983.

 

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 310c/kg and averaged 283c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 374c/kg, averaging 316c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 380c/kg, averaging 354c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 388c/kg, averaging 374c/kg.

Kindee Pastoral Co, Muya, Mitchell sold Charolais cross cows to 383c/kg, reaching a top of $2,417 to average $2,267.
