Yarding: 7000 Change: -1450
NLRS Commentary:
Numbers fell to 6950 head of cattle at Roma this week that included 2000 steers, 3500 heifers and 1100 cows drawn from mostly local areas. Overall quality was very good and included some larger runs of well bred cattle. All the usual export buyers were present and active in a firm to slightly dearer prime cow market.
Despite the reduction in steer numbers, some very good runs of well bred weaner steers were on offer and local backgrounders continued to dominate the buying panel. Prices surged 27c for light weight restocker steers 200 to 280kg selling to 626.2c to average 597c, steers 280 to 330kg also gained 25c on last week selling to 608.2c averaging 578c and medium weight steers returning to the paddock held firm selling to an isolated 610.2c to average 559c/kg. Limited numbers of heavy feeder steers over 400kg still made to 558.2c to average 546c/kg.
Light weight restocker heifers continued to attract support from southern orders with most of the British and euro cross heifers heading for NSW. Gains of 30c/kg were seen on light weight restocker heifers 200 to 280kg, selling to 556.2c to average 527c/kg. Medium weight heifers 330 to 400kg included a run of 850 Preg tested empty heifers from a single vendor, and sold to 522.2c to average 491c/kg. A reduction in numbers and quality of heavy feeder heifers were penned and sold to 478.2c to average 447c/kg.
Heifers to the processor under 540kg held firm selling to 420.2c to average 408c and an improvement in quality of prime grown steers saw a lift of 6c to a top of 484.2c to average 441c/kg. Medium 3 score cows 400 to 520kg were steady making to 392.2c for a charity cow to average 359c, heavy 3 score cows sold to 390.2c to average 381c and heavy 4 score cows over 520kg sold to 418.2c to average 403c/kg. Heavy bulls continued to see significant gains with averages lifting 39c selling to 480.2c to average 459c/kg.
Cows and calves made to $2300/unit.
