Gunnedah 7 Apr 2026: Major buyers active in smaller yarding

Yarding 3400 Change -3000

A reduced yarding for a short week in Gunnedah with 3400 cattle scanned. 3000 less than the prevoious week. It was a fair quality yarding with a higher percentage of plainer conditioned cattle on offer as the dry season continues. Most major buyers were active. Prime cattle to the processor were sought after while store cows going back to the paddock saw limited competition.

Prime yearling cattle to the trade held with steers making from 440c to 485c/kg. The heifers made from 350c to 434c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were cheaper overall. The steers ranged from 370c to 524c/kg while the heifers ranged from 300c to 410c/kg. Young cattle to the restocker were considerably cheaper. Light steers ranged between 375c and 486c/kg. The heifers made from 266c to 396c/kg

Prime grown steers to the processor were limited however prime grown heifers made to 416c/kg. Secondary cows to the processor were over 25c cheaper and made from 196c to 346c/kg while the prime heavy weight cows held firm and made from 345c to 368c/kg. Bulls reached 360c/kg.
