Yarding 3974 Change -1229

A combination of the short working week and recent reduction to prices the number of cattle at Dalby fell by 1229 head to 3974. However the number of cows penned remained relatively high at 955 head. Export buyer attendance was good and one feeder and trade buyer was absent in the young cattle selection.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock regained some of the previous week’s losses. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 2c/kg better. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers also regained some of the reductions experienced the previous sale. This trend flowed through to the yearling heifers to feed with a lift to average prices. The cow market managed to remain close to firm to marginally cheaper with restockers very active on the plain condition lines.
Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 548c with a good selection averaging from 490c to 501c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 450c to 456c with sales to 508c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 485c to average 462c/kg. Grant Daniel Long Report
The Dalby sale yarded 3974 head this week, with reduced numbers due to the Easter long weekend and shortened week, resulting in a mixed market. Heavy kill cows eased by around 5c/kg, while heavy steers and feeder cattle improved by 5c/kg to 8c/kg on solid demand. Weaner quality was strong, with top steers gaining over 5c/kg, though secondary lines faced softer competition.
Overall, stronger demand for quality lines offset softer results in secondary stock.
