Dalby sale 27 May 2026: Numbers lift to 5501 head

Despite the forecast of a return to some useful falls of rain over the supply area numbers at Dalby lifted by 1737 head to 5,501. A good sample of 1353 cows were penned along with 1708 heifers and 1649 steers. The large panel of buyers in attendance were able to absorb the increased numbers plus lift prices by further 30c to 40c/kg on top of the improvements experienced the previous week.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 30c/kg better. Yearling steers to feed improved 17c to 30c and over 50c/kg in places. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers were in demand and improved in price by 70c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed sold to a market 17c to 30c/kg dearer. Bullocks averaged over 30c/kg better. Heavy weight cows sold to a new high level with improvements of 30c to 40c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged from 509c to 519c and made to 563c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market sold to 588c with most sales from 533c to 541c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 552c a fair sample averaging 495c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 488c with a large selection averaging from 443c to 451c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 435c to 451c with the occasional sale to 488c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to a top of 496c to average 454c/kg.

Bullocks made to 488c and grown heifers sold to 474c/kg. Light weight plain condition 4 and 6 tooth heifers to restockers made 424c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows to restockers sold to 372c and averaged 350c/kg. Medium weight 2 score PTIC cows sold to processors at 370c to average 361c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 378c while good heavy weight cows averaged 417c and sold to a new high of 442c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 410c/kg.
