Yarding 6400 Change +2193

The disappointing rainfall event experienced the previous week combined with a dry short term forecast contributed to a 2,193 head increase in cattle numbers at Dalby with the yarding rising to 6,400 head. The yarding reflected producer responses to ongoing dry conditions and limited rainfall prospects across parts of the supply area. Included in the offering were 1,214 cows and 355 bulls. The buying panel was strengthened by additional representatives from New South Wales and Victoria, alongside the regular local operators.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 10c to 13c/kg better and considerably more in places. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 7c to 9c/kg dearer. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers attracted stronger support and lifted in price by 20c to 30c/kg. Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed continued to climb in value to experience a lift of 10c to 16c/kg. A fair selection of bullocks averaged over 30c/kg better. All classes of cows sold to a stronger market with improvements of 8c to 9c and up to 17c/kg on plain condition lines.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to a top of 660c with the largest numbers 547c to 561c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 613c and averaged 560c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 541c with sales to 600c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 564c with a large selection averaging from 459c to 490c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 538c and averaged 500c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 584c to average 501c/kg.

Bullocks made to a top of 498c with most sales at 487c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows to restockers averaged 353c and sold to 369c/kg. The medium weight 2 scores to processors average 356c and made to 368c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 377c while the best of the cows made to 422c and averaged 397c/kg some returning $3,089/head. Heavy weight bulls made to 486c/kg and returned $5,275 head.
