Dalby sale 16 September 2026: Interstate restockers target store cows

Beef Central 17/09/2026

Yarding 6945 Change +669

Ongoing dry conditions across the supply areas lifted the Dalby cattle yarding by 659 head to 6945. The offering included a relatively small contingent of 1180 cows and 351 bulls. Export buyer attendance was less than the previous week however the regular panel of feeder operators remained active in the market while interstate restocker support was very strong for store condition cows. Local restockers and operators from Central New South Wales were also active across all classes of light weight cattle.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock generally sold to a firm market. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed also experienced very little change in price. However all classes of yearling heifers could not maintain the levels of the previous week with price reductions of 40c to 50ckg. A fair sample of bullocks averaged 20c/kg less.  Plain condition cows to restockers experienced a small lift in price however heavy weight cows to export processors averaged 11c/kg less.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to a top of 624c with the largest numbers around 542c to 549c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market average 519c and made to 589c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 580c and averaged 533c the over 480kg lines made to 528c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers averaged from 379c to 418c with a very isolated sale to 492c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 431c to 441c with sales to 484c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 516c with the largest numbers around 448c/kg.

A few bullocks made to 476c to average 466c and heavy export heifers made to 472c/kg. A single full mouth bullock made to 423c/kg and returned $3,978/head. Medium weight plain condition cows sold to interstate restockers at an averaged 360c with sales to 370c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows to processors averaged 376c and the best of the cows made to 398c to average 387c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 470c/kg and some returned $5,201/head.
