A return to a Combined prime and store sale attracted 1873 mixed quality cattle. All regular operators were present and operating in a firm to dearer market on prime categories. Cattle were drawn from Mt Isa and Burketown and south to the local area.
Young cattle saw quality related price changes – a good sample of weaned steers to restockers sold to 456c to average 453c/kg, best quality heifers returning to the paddock made 402c/kg. Yearling steers above 280kg to 400kg feed made from 320c to 420c/kg. Similar heifers to feed averaged 372c/kg. Grown steers above 400kg to feed sold from 328c to 390c, trade types averaged 351c/kg. Heavy grown steers to processors made 358c to 376c/kg. A reduced supply of grown heifers met firm demand selling from 280c to 368c/kg.
A mixed quality offering of heavy full mouthed bullocks to export slaughter topped at 386c to average 370c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold from 250c to 328c to average 312c, 3 scores lifted 20c, topping at 348c to average 327c to 340c/kg. Good pens of prime heavyweight cows met good demand topping at 354 to average 344c/kg. Heavy bulls to processors sold to 358c multiple times.
Small pens of cows and calves sold from $1,260 to $1,450 per unit.
