Tasmania gets its first dedicated bovine IVF service

Beef Central 28/05/2026

Tasmanian cattle producers now have access to a beef and dairy cattle In Vitro Fertilisation service for the first time, with Apiam Genetic Services Tasmania confirmed as the newest Powered by Vytelle satellite.

Dr Matthew Izzo

Led by large animal vet and cattle reproduction specialist Dr Matthew Izzo, the satellite will operate from leading stud Cluden Newry Angus near Launceston, offering regular drop-in OPU sessions designed to make IVF technology accessible to smaller, high-quality studs across the state.

Until now, producers wanting IVF services faced the cost and logistics of moving animals to the mainland. Dr Matt Izzo, who has 20 years in cattle veterinary work and 15 years in embryo transfer, identified the gap when he relocated to Tasmania a decade ago.

“There was no embryo transfer technician or vet based in Tassie,” Matt said. “We started building that from scratch, and partnering with Vytelle was the natural next step: thoroughness, experience, and transparency were the three things that stood out about the company.”

Matt first encountered Vytelle six years ago when he was working for a large dairy herd in NSW who were setting up an IVF lab. Consistent results and transparent communication convinced him it was the right partner for Apiam’s Tasmanian offering.

The satellite will serve all southern breeds, including Angus, Hereford, Speckle Park, and English Longhorn breeders, with OPU days scheduled every couple of months. Producers with high-quality donor cows are encouraged to get in touch.

About Vytelle: Vytelle is a global livestock performance company delivering IVF-based genetic solutions to cattle producers. The Powered by Vytelle™ satellite network connects producers with accredited, regionally based reproduction specialists worldwide.
