THERE’S a little over a week left for entries in the inaugural Angus Australia/Teys Northern feedlot and carcase trial.

The 120-day competition to be fed at Teys Condamine feedlot will recognise top-performing teams across feedlot performance, carcase quality and eating quality, with classes for 100pc, 75pc, and 50pc Angus content. Each entry comprises a team of ten head.

Designed to deliver performance insights, genetic validation and industry recognition, the trial offers a comprehensive platform for producers to showcase and improve their herds. The event follows a similar trial held each year at Teys Jindalee in southern NSW

 A Complete Performance Picture

Producers participating in the trial will receive regular updates on cattle performance, with daily weightgains live-streamed through angus.tech.

“This trial is about transparency and giving producers real-time data to make informed decisions,” said Jake Bourne, Business Development Manager at Angus Australia.

Post-processing, participants will receive detailed carcase feedback, including MSA grading and eating quality assessments. All animals will be scanned on induction, ensuring accurate benchmarking against industry standards. “We want producers to see exactly how their cattle stack up and where improvements can be made,” Mr Bourne said.

 Driving Genetic Improvement

Every animal in the trial will undergo genomic testing using SteerSelect, providing predicted traits and breed content data.

“Genomic testing is a game-changer. It allows producers to validate their breeding programs and make decisions that will improve herd performance for years to come,” Mr Bourne said.

The trial’s growing popularity reflects producers’ commitment to objective performance data and genetic improvement. “Producers are hungry for information that helps them breed better cattle and meet market specifications,” Mr Bourne said. “This trial delivers that in spades.”

Key Dates and Entry Details

• Entries close 31 July.
• Delivery is scheduled for 15 September 2026, with induction the following day.
• Processing will take place on 15 January 2027 for HGP Cattle and Friday 22 January for Non HGP Cattle.
• Entry fees/team are set at $1000 plus GST, and all entrants will receive complimentary entry of one team of three head to the 2027 AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition at Beef Australia 2027 in Rockhampton.

Pre-vaccinations will be administered by Zoetis and genomic sampling will occur prior to delivery.
