Charolais cross steers being sold at Roma saleyards in Queensland

CHAROLAIS and Charbray cattle breeders from across the world will converge on Brisbane early next month for the World Charolais Congress.

The 17-day program, including pre and post tours of Charolais and Charbray stud and commercial breeding operations plus feedlots in Queensland, NSW and Victoria, kicks off in Brisbane on Wednesday, 5 August, before taking in the Ekka Charolais judging on Friday 7 August.

One of the largest assemblies of Charolais stud beef ever seen in Australia will take part in the Ekka Charolais feature show, boasting 280 entries. Judge will be Tom Baker from Woonallee Simmentals in South Australia.

Representatives from nine overseas countries will join a large contingent from across Australia for the program. Overseas visitors are coming from Mexico, Canada, the United States, France, Ireland, Hungary, Finland and Estonia.

Some events during the two-week program will host up to 300 guests. Bookings for all events are now closed.

A National Charolais Sale will be staged during the Congress Dinner on Friday evening, August 5.

After Ekka judging, the tour group heads west towards Roma, visiting progressive Charolais breeders and feeders, and Australia’s largest saleyards complex, before traveling south from Toowoomba to Sydney.

The conference program completes in Sydney on 17 August, before a Victorian Post Tour takes place visiting prominent Victorian Charolais breeders through to Saturday 22 August

Forty two of the delegates will travel on to Melbourne as part of a five-day post congress tour.

The Charolais breed will host its biennial technical conference program next April in New Zealand.
