A NEW Angus and all-breeds national seedstock record price was set during the annual Millah Murrah spring sale held near Bathurst earlier today.

Ross Thompson’s Millah Murrah Angus reclaimed the Angus breed record, securing $420,000 for  Millah Murrah Wyatt W50, bought by Jason Little, Gundungarra Pastoral Co, based near Robertson on the NSW Southern Tablelands.

The price exceeds the previous seedstock record price of $400,000 paid for Wagyu donor heifer Sunnyside S0014 paid at the AWA Elite Wagyu Sale held in Melbourne in May 2022.

Today’s result also easily surpassed the previous Angus bull record of $360,000 paid for Texas Thunderstruck T383 at the annual Texas Angus sale in July 2023.

Tipping the scales at 834kg at 19 months, Wyatt carried strong, well balanced EBV data including +3 for intramuscular fat, +10.4 for eye muscle, +68 for carcase weight, with 400-day weight of +95 and 600 days, +125 (see EBVs, accuracies and percentiles below).

Wyatt was among the first sons offered of Millah Murrah Ulsterman U145, while the dam Millah Murrah Kerry U68 traces back to Millah Murray Ricky R45.

Today’s Millah Murrah sale cleared all 121 yearling, 18-month-old and two year old bulls, averaging $37,578 – among the highest sale averages for any non-Wagyu breed in history.

The result underlines the strong start to the traditional spring bull sales period across Eastern Australia, with excellent clearances and average recorded across a variety of breeds.

Wednesday’s Bullamakinka Santa Gertrudis sale averaged $20,326 for 64 bulls, topping at $102,500; Talbalba Herefords on Friday last week averaged $15,016 for 66 bulls; Rennylea Angus averaged $125,089 for a complete clearance of 215 bulls on Thursday last week; and Futurity Shorthorns averaged $16,576 for 60 bulls.  Yesterday’s Trent Bridge Wagyu sale averaged $16,061 for a clearanace of 146 bulls.
