THE 2026 Australian Wagyu Association Elite Wagyu Sale takes place next Thursday, 16 April, during the WagyuEdge’26 Conference, presenting an exclusive opportunity to access some of the most sought-after Wagyu genetics in the world.
A benchmark event for genetic excellence, the 2026 sale features a select offering representing the top tier of the Australian Wagyu population. All animals included in the catalogue rank within the top 5pc of Wagyu Breeding Values across key production traits, carcase, growth and maternal, and achieve a Breed $Index ranking within the top 1pc of Wagyu registered with the AWA.
Previous sales held during the annual Wagyu conference have set records for Australian beef cattle and genetics.
AWA chief executive officer Matt McDonagh said the 2026 sale reflected the continued advancement and global strength of the Wagyu breed.
“The sale continues to represent the very best of Australian Wagyu genetics. The 2026 catalogue showcases animals that are not only performing at the highest level across key production traits, but are also backed by some of the most comprehensive data and verification in the industry,” Dr McDonagh said.
Building on recent advancements, the sale continues to prioritise genetic integrity and long-term breed sustainability, incorporating AWA Genetic Diversity and Genomic Inbreeding scores. This ensures each lot combines elite performance data with strong genetic diversity, supporting the future progression of Wagyu breeding programs globally.
“The inclusion of genetic diversity and genomic inbreeding metrics is a critical step forward,” Dr McDonagh said. “It ensures we are not only selecting for performance today, but safeguarding the long-term sustainability and resilience of the Wagyu breed.”
The 2026 catalogue, available via the link below, has been limited to an outstanding selection of 33 lots covering bulls, females, semen and embryos, each supported by comprehensive and independently verified pedigree, WBV, and animal health information.
Demand for inclusion in this year’s sale was exceptionally strong, with nominations far exceeding the final offering, further reflecting the continued confidence in Wagyu genetics and the strength of Australia’s global breeding program.
“The level of interest and over-subscription we’ve seen this year highlights the global demand for elite Wagyu genetics and the strength of the Australian breeding program,” Dr McDonagh said.
The sale will be conducted live and interfaced online, enabling participation from buyers across Australia and around the world. Previous bidders and buyers have tuned in from North and South America, South Africa and Europe. The auction will be delivered by Ray White Livestock Dalby, in conjunction with StockLive.
As many of the genetics presented have export potential, international buyers are encouraged to undertake appropriate pre-sale due diligence to ensure all destination market protocols are met.
Importantly, the 2026 Elite Wagyu Sale will mark the final year of the sale in its current format.
Following the sale, attendees are invited to continue the evening at the EWS Cocktail Event, supported by Rabobank, featuring premium Wagyu cuisine, networking opportunities, and a live fire Wagyu cooking by Jess Pryles.
With limited lots and strong global demand expected, buyers are encouraged to review the catalogue early and prepare to secure world-class genetics.
