Beef Central, 21/04/2021

THE nation’s largest supermarket retailer, Woolworths Group has appointed experienced agribusiness manager Anna Speer to the newly-created role of managing director of Greenstock, the company’s new dedicated red meat division.

Ms Speer will start in her new role in June.

As reported in this earlier article, Woolworths in February established Greenstock as a stand-alone red meat business within the B2B Food Adjacencies part of the company.

Greenstock has been created to work with primary producers and suppliers to provide the combined beef and lamb needs of Woolworths Group’s retail, international and wholesale businesses. Woolworths operates well over 1000 retail supermarket sites across Australia.

The move brings together teams involved in Woolworths Group’s end-to-end red meat supply chain, including the Livestock, Processing and Operations teams.

Ms Speer will lead the Greenstock team as it invests in new analytics systems and capabilities to improve forecasting and drive efficiencies and better yields across the group.

She joins Woolworths from the world’s largest cattle and beef company, the Australian Agricultural Co, where she is currently chief operating officer.

Prior to her current role, she spent time as the chief executive of online livestock marketing platform AuctionsPlus. She is a board member of Agribusiness Australia and is a graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation.

Anna will report to Woolworths managing director of B2B and Everyday Needs, Claire Peters, who chairs a management board overseeing the Greenstock business.

Ms Peters said Woolworths very much looked forward to seeing Anna lead the establishment and growth of the Greenstock business.

“Anna brings an impressive depth of experience in agribusiness to Woolworths and will help us better meet the red meat needs of the entire Group,” Ms Peters said.

“Together with the broader team, Anna will work to develop new capabilities to improve our forecasting, drive efficiency and better yields across the group.”

Anna Speer said she looked forward to the prospect of building the new business with the team.

“I’m pleased to be joining such a purpose driven organisation,” she said.

“From my years in the red meat sector, I know the Woolworths livestock teams are incredibly well regarded by industry partners. I’m looking forward to building on those foundations with the team as we work to better serve the needs of our growing mix of customers.”
