Wilmot Field Day 2025: Gabe Brown to headline

Beef Central 15/11/2024

Tickets are now on sale for the Wilmot Cattle Co Field Day, taking place on 26-27 February 2025.

The annual event, now in its seventh year, is hosted by Wilmot Cattle Co. at their New England property near Ebor, NSW, and presented by Macdoch Australia and Impact Ag Australia.

The theme, Embrace the change: food, fire and nature, sets out a challenge for attendees to take the next step to bolster resilience in grazing through climate-smart, profitable and productive farming practices.

The event offers a unique opportunity to hear from Gabe Brown, pioneer of soil health, and author of Dirt to soil: one family’s journey into regenerative agriculture.

Gabe is founder of Brown’s Ranch near Bismark, North Dakota, USA, one of the world’s most renowned regenerative farming businesses.

Wilmot Field Day attendees will gain insights into how Gabe and his wife Shelley’s farm holistically integrates grazing and no-till cropping systems across 6,000 acres to produce all-natural, grass-finished meats and a variety of crops without the use of synthetic fertilisers, pesticides or fungicides.

“I look forward to sharing my personal journey of regeneration – and the hope in healthy soil – during my upcoming visit to Australia because, no matter where you live, regenerative agriculture is common ground for common good,” Mr Brown said.

“As I travel across the globe, I increasingly realise how interconnected we are by our living and life-giving soil – it is the tie that binds humankind’s future.

“Nature has been in the ‘research and development’ business far longer than we have. By farming and ranching in nature’s image we can restore ecosystem function while using far fewer inputs and growing healthier food, all while improving farm productivity and making farming more enjoyable,” Mr Brown said.

Knowledge sharing

Wilmot Field Day is more than just one of Australia’s largest on-farm events – with hundreds gathering each year – it’s an immersive experience for all sectors of the agriculture supply chain.

The event is known for its focus on the practical application of farm management practices to improve soil health, boost soil carbon sequestration and enhance natural capital and biodiversity, while ensuring that resilience and productivity remain a priority.

Macdoch Australia, Executive Chairman Alasdair MacLeod said the heart of the event is sharing real-world knowledge, through engaging speakers and their farming stories, interactive workshops, paddock tours, thought provoking discussions, and networking over delicious food and drinks, including the popular Dinner Under the Stars.

“The Wilmot Field Day has become a firm fixture in Australia’s agriculture calendar and continues to grow each year,” Mr MacLeod said.

“On-farm events such as Wilmot Field Day create opportunities for meaningful engagement with farmers, the wider supply chain, the scientific community, media, and politicians and decision makers to ensure the potential of soil carbon sequestration is recognised, well understood and can be front and centre of agriculture’s commitment to being a part of the climate solution.

“When that conversation takes place in a paddock, surrounded by lush pastures, productive soils, happy and healthy livestock, and biodiversity in abundance, its carries so much more weight.

“We look forward to opening the farm gate again for Wilmot Field Day 2025 and I encourage anyone with an interest in learning more about resilient and productive agriculture to come along.”

Impact Ag Australia, CEO, Hugh Killen said the vision for Wilmot Field Day each year is to help other producers who want to implement new ways of working their land to feel empowered to do so – and not be put off by the anti-farming rhetoric that says it can’t be done.

“We want to be able to demonstrate that through nature-based carbon removals, agriculture, and in particular managed livestock grazing, can play a key role in delivering a lasting contribution to the nation’s transition to net zero,” Mr Killen said.

“The Wilmot Cattle Co. Field Day gives us an opportunity to talk with other producers and encourage them to look at the potential of initiatives such as new soil carbon projects which can be legitimately employed to pursue a business’s sustainability and productivity goals.

“Over two days, attendees will hear first-hand from leading regenerative agriculture and soil carbon experts, connect with like-minded producers, and walk away with a deeper understanding of how enriching the landscape works hand-in-hand with productive and profitable grazing.”

The event is sponsored by soil carbon project developer, Atlas Carbon, Meat & Livestock Australia, and Farm Lab – and the charity partner for 2025 is Armidale based youth support organisation, BackTrack.
