Mark Zuckerberg vows to produce high quality beef with macadamia meal and beer

Beef Central 12/01/2024

ONE OF the world’s richest people says he is planning to produce some of the “highest quality beef in the world”, with his cattle eating macadamia meal and drinking beer.

Mark Zuckerberg is the founder and chief executive officer of Meta, formerly Facebook, and currently sits at number five on the Forbes rich list.

He is a keen meat eater and well-known for his enthusiasm for smoking meat. Shortly after the release of Facebook Live in 2016, Mr Zuckerberg released a 32 minute video of himself smoking a brisket and ribs in his backyard, which went viral and inspired many parodies.

The tech billionaire owns the Ko’olau Ranch on Hawaii, which made news last year with his reported plans to build a 15,000sqm underground bunker on it.

He took to Instagram – which Meta also owns – earlier this week with his next plans for the ranch.

“Started raising cattle at Ko’olau Ranch on Kauai, and my goal is to create some of the highest quality beef in the world. ‘

“The cattle are wagyu and angus, and they’ll grow up eating macadamia meal and drinking beer that we grow and produce here on the ranch. We want the whole process to be local and vertically integrated.

“Each cow eats 5,000-10,000 pounds of food each year, so that’s a lot of acres of macadamia trees. My daughters help plant the mac trees and take care of our different animals. We’re still early in the journey and it’s fun improving on it every season. Of all my projects, this is the most delicious.”

There is an urban myth that beer is fed to Japanese cattle, which is actually referring to a by-product of beer called brewers grain, which is essentially the leftovers. It is unclear if Mr Zuckerberg was referring to brewers grain in his post.

Macadamia meal is not as much of a well-known feed for cattle, but one source told Beef Central it would most likely be work as a cattle feed.
