Young cattle values lift in 14,983 head AuctionsPlus offering

Among larger lines offered this week were 796 Santa heifers from Taroom, Central Queensland, drafted into seven mobs from 370kg back to 264kg. The heavier end averaging 370kg at 13-16 months made 376c/kg or $1390, back to 264kg heifers at 8-11 months that made 379c/kg or $1000.

 

ELDERS and Nutrien’s AuctionsPlus online marketing platform offered a total of 14,983 head, up 21pc on last week. Consistent with recent market trends, young steer and heifer prices were mostly higher in c/kg terms, while breeding categories were mixed.

Clearance rates generally declined as weight ranges increased.

Steers 200–280kg steers saw 1950 entries, clearing 95pc to average 415c/kg, down 11c on last week

Steers 280-330kg lifted 20c/kg in price to average 409c, clearing 90pc of an offering of 1772 head, while 330-400kg examples lifted 12c to average 401c, clearing 80pc of an offering of 1622 head.

Feeder steers +400kg offered 900 head, clearing 81pc, while averaging 375c, up 14c.

From Emerald, QLD, 106 Droughtmaster steers 12-15 months averaging 284kg returned $1320 or 465c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Rolleston, QLD.

The heifer market showed mixed results. A smaller offering of 450c lightweights less than 200kg recorded strong competition, averaging 306c/kg, up 41c, while heifers 200–280kg cleared 91pc of an offering of 1285, averaging 345c, up 24c. Heavier heifers 330-400kg cleared 81pc of an offering of 2036 head, averaging 348c, up 13c.

Further north, 384 lighter conditioned weaned Braford heifers averaging 182kg at 6-14 months from Winton, Queensland made 303c/kg or $550.

Breeding categories showed some variation with PTIC heifers averaging $1780, up $474 on last week with a clearance of 72pc. SM cows & calves averaged $2922, up $63, with a clearance rate of 80pc.

From Barraba, NSW 38 Angus x Santa cows 3-4 years averaging 554kg returned $2260/head and will travel to a buyer near Warialda, NSW.

From Boorowa, NSW a line of 28 composite cows 22 months averaging 546kg returned $2000 and will travel to a buyer near Bathurst, NSW.
