
Yarding 3325 Change -140
It was a slightly bigger yarding, and a mixed offering with most cattle in secondary condition. There were very few well finished cattle to suit domestic or export processors. Prices for secondary stock remained very strong despite not all feedlot orders being in play. There was a bigger group of restockers at the market and all were competing. Strong competition from restockers pushed values up for light-weight steers and heifers returning to the paddock. Light steers in the 200–280kg range saw an uplift of roughly 35c/kg, averaging $1,228/head. The heifer portion gained 50c/kg, averaging $1,021/head.
Trade steers and heifers were scarce, selling at 410–469c/kg. Light weight feeder steers 330-400kg, particularly vendor-bred lines, attracted strong demand, prices jumped about 20c to average 508c/kg. Medium weights were keenly sought improving 4c, with prices ranging from 394–527c/kg. Feeder heifers sold to strong demand with Angus heifers attracting intense competition. Lighter weight feeder heifers gained 5c making from 340-470c/kg. Medium weight feeder heifers were unchanged selling from 410-494c/kg.
In the export sale heavy steers and bullocks suitable for processors were limited, which did distort the trends. The bulk of those sold from 422–455c/kg. Heavy cows were keenly sought ,resulting in a prices lifting 8c/kg. Heavy cows sold from 370-417c/kg. The middle run of leaner cows under 520kg made from 270–392c/kg, while store cows topped at 380c/kg.
