Roma sale 22 Aug 2023: Market softens for 6156 head

Cattle were drawn from Western Queensland , NSW and the local area.

All regular processors were in attendance and operating as well as feedlotters and restockers.

The market did show signs of softening, however the feeder operators and restockers were more competitive on the better bred quality lines of steers and heifers.

Manufacturing grades were in the larger numbers.

Cows could not maintain the levels of last sale.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 309c and sold to 352c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg made to 352c to average 313c/kg. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg averaged 304c and made to 336c/kg. Yearling steers to feed made to 338c and averaged 312c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 326c to average 310c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers sold to. 188c to average 175c/kg. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg topped at 252c to average 220c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg to feed averaged 221c and made to 260c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg topped at 248c to average 207c/kg.

A small selection of grown steers made to 274c/kg. Medium weight score 2 cows averaged 174 and made to 207c/kg. Heavy weight score 3 cows made to 221c and averaged 210c/kg. Best of the heavy weight bulls made to 266c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 352c/kg and averaged 298c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 352c/kg and averaged 304c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 338c/kg and averaged 302c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 336c/kg and averaged 300c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 332c/kg and averaged 285c/kg.

C.P. & S.A. Webster, Somerset, Wandoan sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 338c/kg, reaching a top of $1,077 to average $1,034.

Bond SC & TC, Borromoore, Roma sold Simmental cross steers to 336c/kg, reaching a top of $1,196 to average $960. The Simmental cross heifers sold to 246c/kg, reaching a top of $706 to average $579.

DW & JL Sullivan, Studley, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 332c/kg, reaching a top of $1,197 to average $1,129. The Angus cross heifers sold to 253c/kg, reaching a top of $1,434 to average $1,434.

Yambutta Past Co, Boolara, Meandarra sold Simmental cross steers to 330c/kg, reaching a top of $1,526 to average $1,045.

HP Grazing ATF Hurford Trust, Belgaum, St George sold Angus cross steers to 328c/kg, reaching a top of $791 to average $616.

G.S. & C.J White, Marionvale, Surat sold Droughtmaster steers to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $1,465 to average $1,329.

Bangor Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Bangor, Mungallala sold Brangus steers to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $1,099 to average $888.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 200c/kg and averaged 165c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 252c/kg and averaged 205c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 300c/kg, averaging 234c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 274c/kg, averaging 231c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 280c/kg, averaging 255c/kg.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 220c/kg and averaged 128c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 216c/kg, averaging 170c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 218c/kg, averaging 205c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 221c/kg, averaging 212c/kg.
