Following last week’s increased yarding, cattle numbers continued to surge at this week’s sale with a total of 7521 head penned to go under the hammer.
Among the many consignments, there were good runs of bullocks, feeders and prime cows on offer.
The regular buyers, lotfeeders and backgrounders were present and competing for the yarding which were consigned from across Australia.
This week’s yarding was sourced from as far afield as South Australia, while also hailing from the local Maranoa supply district including the areas of Injune, Mitchell, Mungallala, Roma, Surat and Wallumbilla.
Lines also came from the Western Downs regions of Dulacca and Wandoan, from Adavale, Augathella, Barcaldine, Tambo and Wyandra in western Queensland and from Coonamble in New South Wales.
LJ & SG Hanna offloaded a run of Santa Gertrudis steers, selling to 534c/kg, averaging 362kg and receiving a return of $1,936/hd.
Operating out of ‘Terrarara’, Mitchell, two pens of Santa Gertrudis steers sold to 548c/kg, with the heaviest pen weighing in at 364kg and making $1,997/hd.
Another pen of Santa Gertrudis steers fetched 550c/kg to weigh 317kg and receive $1,744/hd.
The lines were consigned through Elders Roma.
Fitzpatrick Family Farming based out of ‘Alva Downs’, Dulacca, sold a pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers, which fetched 574c/kg, weighing in at 261kg and averaging $1,502/hd.
The line was consigned through Grant Daniel and Long Miles.
Andromeda Cattle Co of ‘Eddington’, Mungallala, offloaded a run of steers to 517c/kg, weighing 289kg and receiving a return of $1,494/hd.
With two pens of Charolais cross steers both fetching 566c/kg, the heaviest pen weighed in at 308kg and made $1,748/hd.
One pen of Brahman cross steers sold to 532c/kg, weighing in at 295kg and receiving a return of $1,573/hd.
The lines were consigned through Nutrien Roma.
NLRS Commentary:
With an increase in numbers Roma Agents yarded 7453 head. Cattle were drawn from NSW and a large area of south west QLD and the Maranoa. There were good runs feeders and bullocks and prime cows penned with the market selling to quality related price changes.
Yearling steers under 200kg sold to 532c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold to 576c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg sold from 300c to 562c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg made to 546c to average 505c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg sold to a dearer trend and made to 504c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling steers over 480kg lost ground and made to 440c/kg to restockers.
Yearling heifers under 200kg sold to 320c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg sold to 430c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg sold from 255c to 444c to average 410c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg made to 440c to average 344c/kg to processors. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg did not reach the levels of the previous sale and sold to 425c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers over 480kg sold to 428c/kg also to lot Feeders.
Grown steers 400 to 500kg made to 450c to processors and 468c/kg to Lot Feeders. Grown steers 500 to 600kg sold to 447c to average 424c/kg to restockers. Bullocks over 600kg sold to 448c to average 424c/kg to processors. Gown heifers over 540kg to 416c/kg to processors.
Once again a large yarding of prime cows penned and an extra operator the market could not sustain the levels of last sale. The best of the 3 score cows over 520kg to 382c/kg. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 262c to 348c/kg. Bulls 450 to 600kg to 422c and bulls over 600kg to 408c/kg to processors.

A total of 7521 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.
Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 532c/kg and averaged 462c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 576c/kg and averaged 497c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 570c/kg and averaged 512c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 548c/kg and averaged 502c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 510c/kg and averaged 468c/kg.
