Yarding: 7703 Change: +1214
Cool mornings and hot prices — just shy of 8000 head of cattle were offloaded through the Roma Saleyards at this week’s Tuesday sale.
Prices were firm across the market, with solid buyer competition on a mixed-quality yarding and continued high demand for cattle.
All the regular processors, feedlotters, and backgrounders were present and actively bidding throughout the sale.
The broad range of cattle offered once again solidified Roma Saleyards as the market of choice, with consistent buyer interest and active bidding across the day.
Cattle were drawn primarily from the local supply district, including Roma, Wallumbilla and Mitchell and Wandoan as well as NSW.
The Booth family from Wandoan offloaded a quality run of Charolais cross steers to average 495c/kg weighing in at 348kg for a return of $1,722/hd.
Based out of ‘Bonanza Park’, Wandoan, the Booth’s fetched a straight 524c/kg for two pens of Charolais cross steers, to weigh 296kg to make $1,552/hd.
A further three pens of Charolais cross steers sold for 480c/kg to weigh 379kg for a return of $1,820/hd.
The line was consigned through Nutrien Wandoan.
‘Whyenbah’, St George offloaded a run of Santa Gertrudis cross steers for an average 472c/kg weighing in at 486kg for a return of $2,298/hd.
Three pens fetched a straight 482c/kg to weigh 471kg to make $2,275/hd.
A further pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers made 470c/kg weighing 499kg for a return of $2,346/hd.
The line was consigned through GDL Roma.
NLRS Commentary:
Roma agents yarded 7,703 head. All the regular processors feedlotters and backgrounders present. Cattle were dawn from NSW and the normal supply district. A mixed quality yarding penned with the market solid thru out for most categories.
Yearling steers under 200kg topped 544c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold from 300c to 558c/kg for the better pens to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg made from 334c to 528c/kg to average 483c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg improved almost 25c/kg to 504c/kg. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg sold to 482c to average 463c/kg to feed. Yearling steers over 480kg sold to 482c to feed and average 428c/kg.
Yearling heifers under 200kg made to 394c/kg. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg selling from 240c to 444c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg sold from 300c to 444c/kg to feed. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg sold from 294c to 462c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg sold to a dearer trend and made to 440c/kg. Yearling heifers over 540kg made to 422c/kg to processors.
Grown steers 400 to 500kg to 480c/kg with larger numbers selling from 384c to 480c/kg. Grown steers 500 to 600kg to 450c/kg to average 441c/kg to feed. A small number of bullocks over 600kg to 418c/kg to processors.
Approx 1400 cows penned which sold to firm to slightly dearer for the score 3 cows over 520kg. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 200c to 378c with the 3 score cows over 520kg topping at 396c/kg. Bulls over 600kg to 400c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 544c/kg and averaged 488c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 558c/kg and averaged 490c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 528c/kg and averaged 477c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 504c/kg and averaged 453c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 482c/kg and averaged 432c/kg.
DW & CE Collinson, Gubberamunda, Roma sold Angus steers to 558c/kg, reaching a top of $1,338 to average $1,338. The Angus heifers sold to 436c/kg, reaching a top of $975 to average $975.
