NLRS Commentary:
With a slight increase in numbers Roma Agents yarded 5666 head. All the regular buyers attending and active in their bidding. The yarding consisting of prime conditioned bullocks and feeders, with approx 1500 cows with a larger offering of prime cows which sold to a dearer trend. Also penned included lines of backgrounding steers and heifers.
Yearling steers under 200kg topped 490c/kg to backgrounders. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold from 350c to 536c/kg to backgrounders. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg made from 370c to 514c/kg to backgrounders. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg improved to make to 472c to Lot Feeders and 502c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made to 480c to restockers and 480c/kg to Lot Feeders.
Yearling heifers under 200kg topped 336c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg sold from 256c to 394c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made from 212c for the plainer types to 412c/kg for the better lines to restockers. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg sold to a dearer trend to make to 400c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg made to 450c/kg to Lot feeders. Yearling heifers over 480kg to 408c/kg processors.
Grown steers 400 to 500kg sold to 382c/kg to Lot Feeders. Grown steers 500 to 600kg sold from 440c to 470c/kg to Lot Feeders. Bullocks over 600kg made from 410c to 428c/kg to processors. Heavy heifers over 540kg sold to 412c/kg to processors.
Approx 1500 cows penned with a larger offering of prime cows. The 3 score cows topped 390c to processors to average 358c/kg. The 2 score cows 400 to 500kg sold from 220c to 340c/kg to processors with the plainer cows selling from 140c to 270c/kg to restockers. Bulls 450 to 600kg selling to 392c/kg to processors. Bulls over 600kg sold to 414c/kg processors.

Highlights
This week’s Tuesday cattle sale saw a slightly larger offering than the previous week, with agents yarding just over 5,600 head.
The regular buyers, feedlotters and backgrounders were present and competing for consignments, which included good runs of bullocks and feeders.
The yarding was drawn from as far north as McKinlay and throughout many areas of western Queensland, such as Augathella, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Longreach, Muttaburra, Winton and Quilpie.
In the southern parts of the Sunshine State, consignments travelled from Bollon, Dirranbandi and St George to go to market.
Throughout the local Maranoa supply district cattle came from areas including Amby, Injune, Mitchell, Roma and Wallumbilla.
Callum Crozier of ‘Beverly Hills’, Mitchell, sold steers to 503c/kg to weigh an average of 206kg and receive a return of $1,041/hd.
One pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers fetched 528c/kg, averaging 225kg and making $1,189/hd.
Another pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers made 512c/kg, to weigh 203kg and receive $1,044/hd.
Callum Crozier also sold one pen of Angus cross steers and they fetched 518c/kg, weighing in at 232kg and returning $1,206/hd.

Defiance Cattle Co offloaded steers at this week’s sale, selling to 500c/kg, to weigh 287kg and receive a return of $1,439/hd.
Operating out of ‘Mountain Cottage’, Roma, one pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers sold to 510c/kg, averaging 247kg and making $1,263/hd.
Another pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers fetched 506c/kg, weighing in at 285kg and returning $1,445/hd.
Along with selling Santa Gertrudis cross steers, Defiance Cattle Co also offloaded two pens of Angus cross steers, with one of the pens selling to 494c/kg, to average 323kg and return $1,599/hd.
The second pen of Angus cross steers sold to 500c/kg, to weigh 299kg and return $1,498/hd.

Brown Grazing, based out of ‘Farewell Station,’ Winton, sold steers at this week’s sale, with one pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers fetching 512c/kg, to average 273kg and return $1,400/hd.

RW & KE Thorne offloaded heavy steers, selling to 402c/kg, weighing an average of 661kg and receiving a return of $2,664/hd.
Operating out of ‘Holmleigh’, Mitchell, two pens of Hereford cross steers fetched 392c/kg, to which the heaviest of the two pens averaged 800kg and returned $3,137/hd.
One pen of Hereford cross steers sold to 418c/kg to weigh 558kg and make $2,334/hd.
One pen of Hereford cross steers made 424c/kg, to average 526kg and receive $2,235/hd.

RJ Anderson of ‘Spoilbank’, Longreach, sold heifers at this week’s sale, with one pen of Angus heifers selling to 380c/kg, weighing in at 264kg and receiving a return of $1,005/hd.
Another pen of Angus heifers fetched 364c/kg to weigh 309kg and return $1,126/hd.
A further pen of Angus heifers sold to 372c/kg, averaging 293kg and making $1,092/hd.

A total of 5666 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.
Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 536c/kg and averaged 475c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 536c/kg and averaged 483c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 514c/kg and averaged 474c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 492c/kg and averaged 470c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 480c/kg and averaged 459c/kg.
KDM Murphy, Koreelah, Charleville sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 536c/kg, reaching a top of $1,290 to average $1,106.
