With recent rainfall across the local supply district, the Roma Saleyards Tuesday Sale featured just over 6,800 head of cattle.

Despite a reduced yarding compared to last week’s sale, the laneways were packed, and prices remained firm to stronger across multiple categories.

All the regular processors, lotfeeders, and backgrounders were present and actively bidding through the sale.

Cattle were drawn primarily from the local supply district, including Roma, Wallumbilla, Dulacca as well Thargomindah and Quilpie.

The yarding also featured cattle from the northern regions including Kajabbi, Stonehenge, Boulia and Richmond as well as far south as Mungindi on the border and Marla in South Australia.

The quality and selection of cattle on offer once again showcased Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.

From Richmond to Roma, the Westaway’s offloaded an extensive run of 494 steers and heifers fresh off the Great Australian Cattle Drive that journeyed from Longreach to Roma.

Luke and Sara Westaway, operating out of ‘Africa’, Richmond, averaged 449c/kg for their line of Droughtmaster cross, Charolais cross and Santa Gertrudis Cross steers weighing in at 326kg for an average return of $1,462/hd.

A further pen of Charolais cross steers reached 442c/kg weighing 395kg for a top return of $1,748/hd.
