Yarding 8100 Change -747

The continuing dry conditions across the general supply area resulted in another larger-than-average yarding at Dalby, with producers taking the opportunity to offload stock as feed and water supplies tightened.

A total of 8100 head were penned, down 747 head on the previous sale. Cows were once again well represented, accounting for just under 2,000 head of very mixed quality lines. The export buying panel of the previous week returned and the regular lineup of feeder buyers were in attendance. However some of the interstate restockers of the previous week were absent.

Competition was generally selective across most classes as buyers focused on cattle meeting exact processor and feedlot specifications and showed reduced interest in lighter and secondary lines. Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged 40c to 50c/kg less with some of the losses attributed to quality. Yearling to feed sold to a market 30c to 40c/kg cheaper. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock lost 40c and yearling heifers to feed were 20c to 30c/kg less. Very plain condition cows to restockers lost all the previous weeks gains. Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 20c less while the heavy weight 3 and 4 cows lost 6c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 536c with most sales 480c to 490c/kg. Y0earling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 546c and averaged 480c to 506c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 594c the largest numbers at 514c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to an isolated 468c with a large number averaging 400c and secondary lines sold around 320c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 419c to 421c with sales to 486c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 544c and averaged 470c/kg.

A fair sample of bullocks made to 460c to average 446c/kg. A fair line up of full mouth bullocks made to 436c and averaged 432c/kg. Very plain condition cows to restockers averaged 265c and made to 316c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows to processors made to 350c to average 334c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 369c and the best of the cows made to 400c to average 383c/kg. Heavy weight bulls sold to 443c/kg.
