Dalby sale 25 Mar 2026: Large cow turnoff continues

There was a minor reduction of 274 head in the total yarding, however overall numbers remained well above average at 7772. The trend of large cow turnoffs continued, with 1328 cows penned alongside 2637 heifers. A fair panel of export buyers were in attendance however most were operating very selectively and the feed and trade buyer representation was not as good as the previous week.

Prices generally eased across all classes. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 20c/kg less. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 20c to 28c/kg cheaper however top end quality lines experienced very little change in price. All classes of yearling heifers sold to a cheaper market of 5c to 24c/kg however similar to the steers top end quality lines received strong support. The national trend of easing cow prices persisted, with a further decline of 7c to 17c/kg, adding to the reductions experienced during the previous week.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 552c and averaged from 489c to 504c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 546c with most sales 471c to 489c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to an isolated 526c and averaged 466c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 446c with averages from 380c to 386c with poor quality lines averaging 265c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 377c to 378c and sold 442c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 436c average 394c/kg.

Heavy grown steers made to 452c and bullocks made to 447c to average 442c/kg. Heavy grown heifers made to 430c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 325c and made to 336c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 353c and the best of the cows made to 390c to average 372c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 398c/kg.
