Donated heifers for auction helping Angus Youth Foundation

Beef Central 06/09/2024

A bunch of Angus bull breeders have generously donated stud heifers as fundraisers for the Angus Australia Youth Foundation this year, and the latest in the series goes up for auction on Monday.

The Angus Foundation provides a mechanism for both Angus Australia members and other beef industry stakeholders to support youth development, education and research programs conducted by the society.

These programs are designed to encourage and assist the involvement of young people in the Australian beef industry, to provide professional development opportunities for young beef breeders, and to assist in conducting research, development and educational programs for the benefit of the wider Australian beef industry.

Funds are used to support Angus Australia’s Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries programs, and where funds permit, activities to support other education and research projects.

With today’s youth the future of the Australian beef industry, South Australian seedstock producers, the Glatz family, have committed the proceeds of a heifer being sold at their annual Glatz Black Angus bull sale on Monday to the Foundation.

The heifer, Black Angus Adelaide U9sv (SJQ23U9) (pictured above) will be offered as Lot 1 in the Glatz VIC Spring Bull Sale kicking off at 11am on Monday, September 9.

“Adelaide U9’s sire, Karoo Main Event M367 is a genuine cow maker. He is a proven sire, being breed elite for foot structure, positive fat and calving ease. Sons of Main Event have sold to $75,000,” Ben and Samantha Glatz said.

The family have made the decision to support the Angus Foundation through the donation in order to give back to the Angus community, and to give opportunity for young people, whether from the city or country to gain knowledge, experience and life-long networks in the great industry.

“Today’s youth are the future of our beef industry,” Ben Glatz said. “What makes this industry so unique is that one does not have to be born into it. For a young person not growing up on a farm, a successful career in our Australian beef industry can literally begin with a little curiosity.”

“The crucial next step is having opportunity to become involved which then drives the passion to gain knowledge, experience, make life-long friends and a successful career.”

“Our own path in the beef industry has been made possible thanks to the early opportunities offered to us by other cattle breeders, junior cattle events, Angus Assessment Schools, scholarships and other networking opportunities.”

“This donation to the Angus Foundation is a way that Glatz Black Angus can contribute to youth development through education, scholarships, awards and bursaries,” Mr Glatz said.

“Hopefully, this contribution may encourage others to also give back to the Angus Foundation.”

The Glatz Black Angus VIC Spring Bull Sale takes place at Coroona, 299 Caroona Lane, Branxholme, VIC and will be interfaced via AuctionsPlus. For information regarding the foundation donation heifer, contact Ben Glatz on 0407 712 455 or email glatzblackangus@gmail.com
